Packers sign rookie Jenkins, Sternberger last remaining unsigned draft pick

-- As of Monday, only one member of the Green Bay Packers’ eight-man draft class remains unsigned.

The team officially announced second-round offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins as the most recent signee, inking him to his rookie deal and ensuring he’ll be around to potentially compete for a starting guard position in 2019.

Tight end Jace Sternberger, who the Packers selected in the third round, is that aforementioned unsigned draft pick.

Jenkins was a center for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in his junior and senior seasons, but had the capability of playing all across the offensive line; a redeeming quality that the Packers heavily value and may justify landing one of the lesser-known offensive lineman talents in this year's class at No. 44 overall.

"His combination of size and athleticism; in this scheme we're going to run, that's going to be a premium for us," said team scout Charles Walls shortly after Jenkins was selected.

The Packers already received a boost to their offensive line this spring when Cole Madison, one of last year's fifth-round picks, returned to the team after stepping away from football for several months due to personal matters.

"His combination of size and athleticism; in this scheme we're going to run, that's going to be a premium for us," said team scout Charles Walls. Don't see instant impact here. I say he's to slow to be a pulling Guard.

A lot of people are saying a plethora of pens in Russ Ball's silo is the only reason Zach isn't reporting a multitude of unsigned draft picks in the aforementioned article.

What's the going rate for a red-shirt TE?
I've got Graham, Lewis and Tonyan ahead of the rook.
He's too slow for ST. He needs to sign and get to work.
2019 he can learn playbook and from cagey vets.
2020 is when he could emerge as TE threat.

Jenkins is our 6th offensive lineman. He'll get playing time when a starter gets hurt, unless that starter is Bakhtiari. He'll back up Linsley, Turner, and Taylor. If Bulaga gets hurt, Turner will move over to RT and Jenkins will play RG. That's how I see it.

Sternberger is behind Graham and Lewis, but I don't expect him to stay behind Tonyan forever. I think that unless Graham or Lewis is injured, Tonyan and Sternberger aren't going to get a lot of offensive snaps and will mostly play on special teams. Sternberger, IMO, offers more as a receiver.

Grahamand Lewis could both be gone by next season.
