It's sounding more and more like the Green Bay Packers will play one of their regular season games in London.  Rumors have been swirling that they'll head overseas in 2016.  Head coach Mike McCarthy has hinted that he's not a huge fan of the idea of having to get his team across the pond and ready to play a game.  Then there's the logistics of dealing with the time change and then trying to return to normal when they get back in the States.  The team would get their bye week following the trip to help them readjust and so then the question becomes when that game would take place in the schedule.  For such a regimented individual such as McCarthy, it's easy to understand his hesitation.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spoken in favor of playing a game in London when asked.  The experience of playing somewhere different and on different soil is a rare opportunity that face teams and their players.  Judging by the number of fans from the United Kingdom who follow the Packers and follow the NFL, the game is clearly gaining more and more popularity there.  Of course, the original football is still numero uno, that being what we call soccer.  But no doubt the NFL fever is picking up steam in the U.K.

One thing to consider about a game in London is that even though neither team calls it home, one team would be the home team and give up a home game back at their usual venue in the U.S.  As important as games at Lambeau Field are to the Packers and Green Bay, it would absolutely shock me if the NFL had Green Bay slated as the home team.  Bet on their being the visitors.  The Jacksonville Jaguars have played a game in London the past few seasons and are expected to extend that deal into next season.  As fate would have it, the Packers are set to face the Jags at home in 2016.  That's likely the matchup if the Packers are chosen.  And barring any major changes in either team over the next year, the Packers would stand a good chance at scoring a win in their inaugural game in London.

I think the Packers playing in London would be a good thing.  They have such a broad fan base and many based in the U.K. who would pack the stadium to see their team live for perhaps the first time.  It seems the NFL wants its marquis teams playing there eventually to give the fans a chance to see them and let's not ignore the financial gain.  If the 2015 season plays out how many of the experts and oddsmakers are predicting, London will be getting the defending Super Bowl champions.
