Packers to hire national scout Milt Hendrickson to 'prominent' front office position

The Green Bay Packers are expected to add a vital component to their front office at the conclusion of the season.

According to Bob McGinn of BobMcGinnFootball.com, the Packers are in a position to hire Milt Hendrickson, a national scout for the Baltimore Ravens.

Hendrickson, 44, has been with the Ravens since 2005 and has close ties with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. The two attended UW-La Crosse in the mid-90s and both helped coach the football team there in 1996.

Gutekunst also played a significant role in netting a scouting internship with the Packers for Hendrickson in 2004, one year prior to landing in Baltimore for the then foreseeable future.

Hendrickson's area of expertise specialized in scouting offensive linemen, even as a Midwest area scout. He held that post for 11 years before being promoted to a national scout in 2016, replacing Joe Douglas, whose tenure with the team lasted 15 seasons.

This isn't the first time Hendrickson has been discussed as a potential add-on for a prestigious front office position. The Packers had shown interest in interviewing -- and potentially hiring -- Hendrickson last spring, but Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome blocked their attempt.

The position Hendrickson would've held was assistant general manager; one of which Eliot Wolf likely would've landed had he not accepted the same role in the Cleveland Browns' front office alongside two former Packers executives, Alonzo Highsmith and John Dorsey.

The Packers are still in transition as an organization after reorganizing their front office last offseason and relieving former head coach Mike McCarthy and assistant head coach Winston Moss of their duties within the last two weeks. With three games left in the regular season, Gutekunst and company are already looking ahead to what should be another crucial offseason.

Well, good. The organization has been historically lacking in employees named Milt.

Is former UW-L coach Roger Herring still alive? If he is be on the lookout for a special assistant role for him.

They could use someone with an eye for OL talent in the scouting dept. They definitely need to get better there.

Does better scouting = better players? That's all that matters.
Thanks, Since '61

Smells. Gute gets another fall guy? Surrounding people that are truthful, are better than loyal puppets. The boys club just got bigger. Hopefully he'll pay his dues.

Had this been a player signing I might have been a little upset. Milt is simply not a football player's name. On the other hand Milt is the exact kind of name you would expect out of a great scout. I like this signing and Baltimore has one of the best scouting departments in the NFL. Welcome to Green Bay Milt.

Is this a harbinger of the hiring of another Baltimore Raven former employee to a high level position with the Green Bay Packers?
