Cap= In 2022, that number is set at $208.2 million. That number is a $25.7 million increase from 2021,as of March 7. Numbers courtesy of Spotrac. Green Bay Packers. $-29,795,758.

I suggest we cut Cobb and ZSmith as a starting point. Even by saving $22 million, we'd still be almost $30 million in the hole. I would assume that at least of half of what we're paying for Rodgers and Adams will be pushed ahead into the future, so that would brings us relatively close to 0. We're going to do this.
Returnees:
OL: Bakhtiari, Runyon, Myers, Newman, Turner, Nijman, Braden, Hanson. Patrick is a UFA who could probably be brought back for about $2 million. Jenkins will rejoin the team at some point during the season. That's 10.
TE: Lewis, who is our 6th offensive lineman, and Deguara. Tonyan should return at some point in the season. Daffney and Davis , who will probably be upgraded in the draft.
WR: Adams and Lazard start. On most plays, there'll only be two WRs on the field and it'll be those two. Amari Rodgers will play slot. I don't know who the other two on the 53 will be yet.
Offensive Backfield: This is a really good group....Rodgers, Love, Dillon, Jones, Taylor, Hill.
Basically, we'll be returning the entire offense. The additions of Bakhtiari, Myers, and Jenkins as well as the development of Runyan and Newman are our best hope for saying "We're better on offense than last year'
On the DL: Clark will play a lot, followed by Lowry. Slaten will play on first downs and short yardage. Beyond that, only question marks.
We'll line up Gary and PSmith will play a lot but we need a third guy in the rotation.
Barnes is going to play , and we'll either find a way to keep Campbell or replace him.
Amos, Savage, Alexander and Stokes are all under contract. We'll try to resign Douglas, and we should be able to , based on the comments he made.
Basically, quite a bit of last year's team is coming back. The calculation must be that we'll be better because of the guys who weren't healthy last year will be better, some of the youngsters will be better, and we'll get somebody in the draft to make us better. I hope the 1265 Braintrust got this right..

Wether we like it or not this is what it is. I feel much better after reading Demovsky's article this morning. He maps out a way for Pack to keep all but Zadariou, Cobb, Turner,Lewis, and Crosby. This would still be a very good team. Even if we release Z, he still counts 12 mill on our cap. It might be advantageous for him to reduce his contract to just the cap hit, and stay with a contending team where he can rotate and increase his performance. It will all depend on if another team gives him more than 12 mill guaranteed which is not a given with his age and injury.

Add some incentives that he could boost his salary based on some metric. Last year, with Preston, it was sacks. He earned quite a bit by performing and I think that bonus didn't count until this years cap. It can't be a gimme, because those are counted against the cap immediately. Z is a great player when healthy and from all I read an exceptional locker room guy. I would love to be able to keep him.

I'm not too keen on cutting Turner and Lewis. That's two out of our six run blockers, they're veterans, Turner can play multiple positions. And we'd only save $4 million on Turner, and less than that on Lewis, and we'd have to pay their replacement. So the savings aren't worth losing two starters, IMO.

Post June-- 5.8 Turner, 4 Lewis. I would love to keep Turner, but it might come down to Turner/Lewis or Campbell/ Douglas. Also, I'm confident Nijman could play RT with a camp to make himself comfortable there.

I don't disagree with the gist of what Demovsky wrote. He carefully did not keep a running tab to crunch the numbers. The cost to bring some of GB's UFAs back were pretty rosy estimates. For example, MVS at $5M AAV. How bout $10M? Below is a link to Zach Kruse's article quoting Tom Pelisero, who isn't a Packer fan as far as I know, so this seems more objective to me.

Now, even if Campbell and MVS command $10M, their first year cap hits could be $5M each. Lazard might get the tender for $3.98M, but GB probably restructures that with voids and a SB to knock it down to $1.6M.

Now that Rodgers is back, I wouldn't give MVS more than 6 mill because I believe they just didn't connect enough. Maybe that 2nd top WR will have to come from these choices, in this order: Lazard, Amari, Draft pick 2nd round.

Love is a Packer. Get over this "trade him" talk. How long was Rodgers a back up to Favre, after he got drafted? Same thing here.
