Great analysis overall. I really like the 4RB with the uncertainly of Lloyd. My only possible objection is I think we keep Caleb Jones as the 10th linemen. As you mentioned we always keep 10. Moreover we already have some injury issues with Glover and Dillard. Also, after the last last game I am really sold on Caleb Jones. The Practice squad carries risks. That is how we landed Bo Melton. The big unknown at this point is what QB will go to the practice squad. Thanks again, I appreciate this early report from GB

The 53 on the roster is so fluid I don't understand why so many make a big deal of it. It will change almost daily if not semi-daily from the moment it is announced. Fans will pound their keyboards a player they like will never make the PS but they usually do.

Go to Packers.com and look at their depth chart and add the 3 specialists and you have 47, which is over the game day limit. That's our active roster. Then we can add another 6 to the 53 man squad, in the event of injuries, and that's usually 3 on offense and 3 on defense..

The remainder will have to clear the waiver wire before we can resign them on the practice squad.

The three offensive guys I'd like to see kept are Caleb Jones, and two RBs, Lloyd and Wilson. If we could start the season with Lloyd on the IR, then I'd like to see him replaced with Merriwhether. I know it was against 3rd team guys, but he ran hard.

On defense, the three I'd like to keep are Mosby (a 3rd string DE) Kaelen King and Corey Ballantine.

Royce Newman is listed as backup LG. He's going to be on the active roster. I knew it. Just as surely as the anvil will bounce off the trampoline and nail Wiley Coyote in the head, I knew that it would come to this. I'm going to start my mourning period now.

Yeah, with all of the practice squad elevations and complicated maneuverings nowadays, there are players who come and go on the roster throughout the season. Making roster predictions and criticizing a team's roster decisions is still a really fun parlor game though. I, for one, cannot resist playing.

OK, wtf is up with this app?! I just deleted and re-downloaded it, but it is still forcing me to watch the embedded Packers Daily video non-stop when I click on a story. Is this by design?! It’s unusable. Is this happening to anybody else?

New rule: you don't have to be on the 53 before you can go to IR.
2 players can go straight to IR without being on the 53.

This is a much sunnier outlook on the backup QB situation than I've seen anywhere else. I'm not this optimistic, but I'm not as down on Clifford and Pratt as most people are. I would say it was a disappointing training camp for Clifford, and about what we should have expected from Pratt. That leaves the Packers in an awkward spot to begin the season, but I still think they will keep one of them. If they decide to go another route, I heard that former Falcons QB Desmond Ridder may be released by the Cardinals. Maybe the Packers could pick him up or trade him for one of their own fringe players.

You cite Dallin Leavitt as an example of a player being kept just for special teams.
When he made the team they kept free agents.
This year, the numbers are much better; they won't be keeping free agents.
Couldn't Leavitt be cited as an opposite example?
He's not here anymore.
