Pack's What She Said: Episode 11

With less than a week until the draft, Maggie and Perri get serious.

Your hosts give you a full draft class each for the Packers:

Get the latest from Maggie and Perri right here:

Maggie's Picks:
(EDGE) AJ Epenesa, (WR) Michael Pittman Jr., (OT) Ben Bartch, (CB) Reggie Robinson II, (IDL) Bravvion Roy, (S) Tanner Muse, (RB) Raymond Calais, (TE) Dalton Keene, (CB) Kamren Curl, (OT) Cameron Throckmorton

If AJ Epenesa is the best player available at No. 30, you take him, regardless of the fact that he's an edge rusher. He's a versatile player who can get after the quarterback a variety of ways, with his hand in the dirt or rushing from the outside. Next, I'm taking a wide receiver who fits the mold as a true Packers receiver, giving Rodgers a new weapon that can stretch the field. Ben Bartch has been mocked to the Packers quite a bit, and with good reason. He's a great developmental prospect who could develop into the right tackle of the future behind Rick Wagner. To give the Packers more depth along the offensive line, I also snagged Cameron Throckmorton in the seventh round. He played right tackle the majority of his collegiate career. Next, Green Bay will be thinking about the CB unit beyond 2020, which is why I grabbed Reggie Robinson II in the fourth round and Kamren Curl in the seventh. Both have elite RAS scores which is something Gutekunst looks for at the cornerback position. In the middle rounds I snagged Raymond Calais who's an explosive, quick runner out of Louisiana and tight end Dalton Keene on offense, giving the Packers two developmental players with high upside. I address the run defense with Bravvion Roy, one of the truest nose tackles in this defensive linemen class, and since I didn't select a traditional inside linebacker in this draft, I grabbed Tanner Muse to play as a hybrid box safety. He's a thumper that can drop into coverage opposite Christian Kirksey.

Perri's Picks:
(WR) Jalen Reagor, (OT) Isaiah Wilson, (S) Alohi Gilman, (TE) Devin Asiasi, (IDL) Khalil Davis, (WR) Antonio Gandy-Golden, (CB) John Reid, (RB) Michael Warren II, (CB) Nevelle Clarke, (TE) Jacob Breeland

We're looking for another offensive weapon for Aaron Rodgers. Ideally, someone who brings some new traits to the table. With Jalen Reagor still on the board at 30, the Packers get a burner, someone who is going to attack downfield, and immediately start. Next, is Isaiah Wilson offensive tackle out of Georgia. A massive dude with massive upside, who can come in and develop behind Rick Wagner. Don't forget the defense in Alohi Gilman and Khalil Davis, two players with different skill sets to be used to shore up the run and play in coverage. Nice chess pieces for Pettine. Devin Asiasi gets taken in the 4th round, a fun weapon that with a little polishing can become a great compliment TE2 to Sternberger. Later rounds we snag two cornerbacks to bring some competition into the room, another versatile WR, a back with impressive stats for a lesser known school and another developmental tight end.

Just not sold on taking another edge. We already have the Smiths and Gary which means there just aren't many snaps available for another edge. I would hate to see a #1 sitting on the bench for the next 2-3 years until the contract on one of the Smiths runs out. There should be a group of comparably rated players at #30, please take one that can fill a current hole (WR, OT, IDL) and help the team now.

Move Gary inside. That's where he should be anyway, IMO.

I've shared that thought a number of times on this site, but the coaching staff clearly doesn't agree. They see Gary as an OLB which makes the Epenesa selection a head scratcher for me.

I'm not taking any OL that won't amount to Jack Squat. Same for this class of TEs. I've watched Penn State play. They just aren't NFL caliber. (Got to go Back -up QB first) And while some wouldn't take a RB. That just might be the best investment @30. This draft has powerful offensive game changers. If you like him. Take Him. Forget the BPA. We need to get a WR, and there should be NO doubt about which one. If your considering Pittman you take Higgins first. If your considering a game changing weapon ,take Reagor. If you want Defense, Don't take a player that takes 4 yrs. You'll only lose him in FA. Rodgers could be just a season away from CHANGING! It's a great offensive draft. In a perfect world, Gutey will win this draft if he takes offense early. WR, WR/RB, LB.

Maggie's draft; Interesting pick with A.J. Epenesa - worth a contemplative moment. However by doing so, fails to address one of the most pressing needs - a faster and more dynamic offence - which is further worsened with the selection of Pittman Jr. For me Bryan Edwards is a more fitting pick.

I think Perri's mock is more in alignment with current team needs. Only that I consider Gilman a reach in the third round. Also like the offence, the defense needs to get faster - which will not happen with Gilman.

P.S. - Here is my 'official' mock draft - taking Maggie's suggestion to trade-down from 30 - for picks 36 and 110:
36. Jalen Reagor - WRS
62. Lucas Niang - OT (alternative Robert Hunt/Isaiah Wilson)
94. Antonio Gibson - RB (alternative Devin Duvernay)
110. Leki Fotu - DT
136. Michael Ojemudia - CB
175. Jared Pinkney - TE
192. Shyheim Carter - S
208. Joe Bachie - ILB
209. Cole McDonald - QB
236. Jon Runyan - OG
242. Travis Reed - CB

Both these mocks do not have any ILBs taken at all. While it may not be a strong draft after the top 3 of Simmons, Murray, and Queen, I would be surprised if the position is totally neglected. Even some late round picks such as Weaver, Walker, or Bailey are better than nothing. Who knows we could find a player like Greenlaw in the 5th as the Niners did.
