Report: Packers' Aaron Rodgers suffers knee injury on Sunday Night Football

-- Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered what could be a potentially serious knee injury in the team's season opener against the Chicago Bears.

On a third-down play, Rodgers dropped back to throw but quickly hit the deck with the Bears' pass rushers closing in. After he did so, Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris sacked him and landed right on Rodgers' left knee.

The impact of Robertson-Harris' fall caused Rodgers' knee to bend inward.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, it was the same knee Rodgers suffered a torn ACL with in high school at Pleasant Valley.

Rodgers was carted to the locker room by the medical staff midway through the second quarter.

DeShone Kizer, who the Packers acquired via trade with the Cleveland Browns back in March, is the only other active quarterback on the roster. Tim Boyle was one of their seven inactives.

Rodgers was playing behind his starting offensive line Sunday night, and it was the first time all throughout training camp that all five starters had lined up alongside each other. The struggles and lack of cohesion shared by the starting group was obvious through the first half prior to Rodgers' injury.

Rodgers completed three of his seven passes for 13 yards and he was sacked twice -- one of them being the fatal blow that sent him to the locker room.

Update as of halftime

The Packers ruled Rodgers as "questionable" to return with a knee injury. However, during halftime, he jogged back out onto the field and began stretching.

An ACL tear is ruled out of the equation, and at this point, the worst case scenario would be something concerning Rodgers' MCL.

To all you geniuses who disliked my comments concerning Mack and what a mistake it was not to do whatever it took to get him, go ————- yourselves. Exactly what I said would happen has. He’s made everybody around him on that defense better. And they were pretty damn good to start with

Awesome for you, only a holes pat themselves on the back when bad predictions come to fruition...

I’m not patting myself on the back. I’m sick to my stomach over what is just taken place. I’m just sick of the people who think that everything that the packer brass does is OK. I said at the time that Khalil Mack was a generational type player and they don’t come available very often and when they do you do whatever it takes to get them. I also thought that they would’ve learned this from their acquisition of Reggie white and what it did for the franchise.

He’s a generational player that lost his first game on his outrageous contract. Let’s move along

Mack is a good player but not a generational one. Generational players would have found a way to slow Rodgers just enough to not blow that lead.

And let's not confuse making plays against DeShone Kizer with making them against Aaron Rodgers. One is pretty easy to do. The other isn't.

The Packers tried to get mack. They got outbid. If you got every player you wanted then you'd have the all pro team on your roster.

(Intro edited because I see that further down the comments you at least conceeded happily that Rodgers is the GOAT.. But I had some choice words for your tone here originally) .

Mack never took over the game. He got a few plays. Oh, yeah- he was going against a OT most of the night who's 10 months out from an ACL injury and outside of a handful of snaps wasn't given extra help.

By the way... SCOREBOARD. Packers just beat the Bears, Khalil Mack and all- with an injured QB.

Maybe Gutekunst and the Packers were correct in suspecting that even a player of Khalil Mack's caliber has a top-end price point that shouldn't be exceeded.

Mack played on the defense that suffered the biggest 4th Q collapse in Lambeau history. That's a good long history with more than one HoF QB involved. If I'm giving up two #1s, I'm sort of expecting a guy that can do something to prevent that statement from being made about his team.

Don't get me wrong, I think Mack is a good player, I would have like for it to work out to get him to GB. But his first half against Kizer doesn't change my opinion that the price was awfully high. After all, there is a reason that Cleveland gave him (and some draft capital) up for Damarious Randall. And his second half vs Rodgers re-enforced that opinion.

Mack is a Really Good football player. I wish GB had him, However he is far from the 2ond coming of Reggie White. He isn't worth any where's near the contract he got, & Chicago gave the Farm away Again to get him. The one they're still paying for Cutler.

Bulaga played an Excellent game against him. The truth be said, we made him look Great at times. Nobody here is calling for an Established back-up QB, but I am. We cannot play with the one we have. Might sound Crazy, but lets talk to Philly, maybe even (I Hate This) Minn. There has to be one out there that we could give a 1 or 2 for. We'll probably pick 20 or later. As injury prone as Bradford is, I wouldn't mind him sitting on our bench. If you came away from the game with anything besides AR's a Great QB, It's he'll probably not make it through the whole season, now that he has at least a serious injury. I'd be out there trying to get a replacement. Maybe Detroit would trade Cassel for a decent draft choice. We need an established QB behind AR, & I hope we don't find that out Again.

As far as AR being the GOAT. I agree with what Smith said last year. He said AR is the Most Talented QB of all time, but how do you eliminate Tom Brady with all the rings. I'd like to say that AR is the GOAT, but how do I prove that. I've said a number of times, the 1 thing AR hasn't done yet is, Get Better at the end of his career. Favre did it. Brady is doing it. I hate to say Elway did it. AR is 34. Let's see how he does at 37 to 40 before calling him the GOAT. Like it or not, he needs at least 2 more rings to over take Brady for that Honor. Without the Rings, the only place AR will be the GOAT is Green Bay, WI.

Mack had an historic first half. The Packers line played much better in the 2nd half.

I respect the man-crush on Mack, but hang on. Rodgers is back and heating up! Bears' lead cut in half. Defense finally woke up from their nap.

There's a few commenters around here who must not be familiar with the CHTV slogan, "Lotta game left" lol.

Learn it. Love it. Live it. It keeps feet out of mouths.

After that first half when it seemed like all was lost, watching Mack chase Cobb all the way to the goal line was priceless. Poetic justice, or whatever you call it, it couldn't have been scripted better.
