Rodgers Watch entering the home stretch

The Packers quarterback is reportedly "torn" when it comes to where he wants to play in 2022 and beyond.

The Packers cotinue to wait on a decision from Aaron Rodgers regarding his intentions when it comes to playing (or not playing) in 2022. Up until Thursday of this week, all signs seemed to point toward a return to Green Bay.

Then Friday happened.

Ian Rappaport, who fans would do well to remember was the one who broke the story last summer that Rodgers would be arriving for training camp, put out the below:

This was the first real indication that there could be a legit possibility of Rodgers still asking for a trade, despite the apparent reconciliation between Rodgers and the franchise after the drama of last summer.

Then, there was this from Mike Florio:

I spoke with a source this morning that pushed back pretty forcibly with the contention in Mike's piece that the Packers have trade compensation lined up with possible trade partners. Indeed the source indicated that the Packers have had absolutely zero discussions with any team about compensatiion for their super star quarterback.

I don't doubt that this is true, but I also don't doubt that there have been "back channel" communications, so to speak, and that a potential trade could and would come together quickly.

The Packers have made it abundantly clear they want Rodgers back. Now it's down to Rodgers. Will he stay or will he go?

Stay tuned.

If he’s really not sure if he wants the Packers it the Broncos as reported elsewhere, he’s not all in on the Packers. Let him go, take whatever we get, move on and let’s see what LaFleur can do.

CW...I was thinking the exact thing. If Rodgers is STILL not all in on playing in GB next year, he will never be. I can see him second guessing himself all season. And if he or the team goes through a rough patch on the field, how will he react?

It may be he has general knowledge of the roster cuts looming if he stays...and it may be giving him pause.

My take as well CW. If he isn't all in on the Packers, it is time for him to go elsewhere. A fresh start may be beneficial to his attitude and the Packers don't need a guy who may isn't completely committed. Trade him and start over.

Rodgers may need a push to get over his indecision. That push may happen on March 8. The Packers have reportedly had no contract negotiations with Adams and given the difficulty in tagging him, it appears Adams will become a free agent come March 8th. Without Davante, Rodgers may become decisive.

If Rodgers doesn't make a decision then, the FO will have to step up and make the decision for him.

Yeah, I tend to agree.

Also consider that for him to return for 2022 is going to require another big time signing bonus. What if 2022 doesn't go well? It depends on how big the signing bonus is, but I would envision having a minimum of $25M in dead money again after this season, and it could be closer to $47M.

Totally agree and if one checks the sources - Florio hates Green Bay and in particular hates AR- so all I can say is whatever. Rappaport is a dufus - totally a dufus - and he pretends to be an insider - so he is really the great pretender. Wouldnt doubt that he told someone to tell him that AR is torn. And then he reported it - but it was probably his neighbor cutting grass.

Tuesday is DDay - and after that negotiations will start with both him and longer term with Adams who once he is franchised that deadline is done. Now if he pulls a Favre and doesnt decide on Tuesday - then it is good riddance - start the cutting to get to the cap and look for a long rebuild - because after paying AR and Adams - everyone of value will need to go. And so what if he retires.

Fair enough and I understand what you mean. But it is hard to ignore several "insider" reports and dozens of articles in the media while CHTV ignores it all by not writing this type of article.

I don't think that much of Florio but Rapoport has been pretty reliable. Not sure if Rapoport's source is also Florio's or if Florio is his source, of course.

If ARod is truly backchannelling deals with other teams, why would we want him back? His heart is obviously not with us any longer. Why would we want someone that doesn't want us? It's time to rip off the bandaid and see what we have with Jordan. Let's get as much capital as we can, then if Jordan isn't the answer, we can look at next years draft for one of those stud qbs.

Backchannel stuff happens all the time...on the golf course, at a concert, at a league function--whether it's agents, legal reps, players, GMs. Rising to a level of "tampering" is hard to demonstrate. Teams can do it with other teams, why would we assume players don't do it, too?

The Packers and ARod have until the start of the league year to get this figured out or the cap goes "Ka-BLOOIE!" I have no doubt that there's been backchannel talks between the Packers and other teams IF they really think there's a good chance this falls apart--they have to know where they're going to turn, after all--and it's very possible there has been initial gauging of level of interest from the ARod camp with those possible actors because they'll have to get a new deal done toute-de-suite and ARod won't go somewhere he won't get paid.

They want him back because he proved he could win on the field last season AFTER round one of taking the "business" side public, and because he still holds all the important cards as to whether he stays, is traded, or retires. If he chooses to leave, they would be fools not to backchannel.

I actually still hope that part of the peacemaking last year between ARod and Gute was an agreement to backchannel together for a mutually best outcome if ARod did decide to move on.

As to timing of ARod's decision, if you have been reading dobber's posts IMO he has had it pegged all along.

Forget any Capitol. A contract is intended to be enforceable by law. If A Rod is truly back channelling deals. It's insubordination/Tampering. And they wouldn't want him back. I can see why Rodgers wanted to be traded. Being the Packers might have failed many promises to him, by drafting Love.

It’s been a nice 13 year run with Aaron but he has become too self absorbed and focused more on his personal stats (and has taken Adams there as well). He doesn’t come through in the biggest games because he’s not a team player anymore. We won’t have to watch him rolling his eyes or throwing into triple coverage because he doesn’t “have a connection” or “trust” with a wide open guy.

Wish him the best, but trade him asap, let Adams go so they can get more stats together. We have a lot of good players with really good attitudes - I would like to see them grow as a team. Call it a rebuild, but $100 m to keep Rodgers and Adams - INSANE !

We could get a whole lot of draft capital by trading them both, and save 70 million. I turned against Favre when he became a prima donna and I've now turned against Rodgers. If the man has questions about wanting to stay, screw him.

I love it! All the AR haters (people who will never be happy with anything, no matter what) are praying he leaves. People who love AR are scared to death of a future without him. Cap guys are like: How are we going to make this work???

I'm sitting over here imagining both scenarios. If he goes to Denver where are we going with our #9 Overall pick? If he stays, how are we going to fit both him and DA under the cap???

If AR stays, does he really expect Crosby, Cobb, and Big Dog on the roster this year? If he goes, can MaLF get Love up to speed fast enough to compete in the North? Can he impress on Love the importance of protecting the ball?

If AR stays, will our cap be destroyed for years? Can we tag-n-trade DA if Rodgers decides to come back? Can we tag-n-trade DA if AR doesn't come back?

For me it comes down to what is best for the Packers short-term and long-term. If AR stays, I'm all in with him. If he goes, I'm all in with Love.

No matter whether AR stays or goes, I still think the best thing for the Packers is to tag-n-trade DA. (Even if it is for a 2nd round pick this year.) Some really decent WR prospects going to go in the 2nd round this year and I wouldn't mind seeing Gutey draft 2 of them.

Tag-n-trade is hard, no matter what just because of the gymnastics that will likely be needed with the cap....but if ARod comes back, you're trying to be winning in 2022, so I think a tag on Adams means he plays in GB in 2022. A tag/trade scenario there makes no sense. And, frankly, unless the Packers net a QB in return in trade or early in FA that they think they can win with in 2022, tagging and keeping 17 makes no sense.

Yeah, tag-n-trade might be too tough for our FO. Was just hoping we could at least upgrade our compensation for DA from a 3rd round comp pick to at least a 2nd round pick. Especially with Skyy Moore, Christian Watson, and Alec Pierce staring us in the face in the 2nd round this year. ; )

I've now convinced myself that the Packers are going to trade AR/DA to Denver in a package deal.

This year we would get Denver's 1st round pick and both their 2nd round picks and a player. Their 1st and 2nd round picks next year. That's 2 1st round picks and 3 second round picks and a player for AR/DA...

Or, we can go into Cap Hell for half a decade. Easy choice for me.

As you stated earlier in this thread, back channeling happens all the time. If that’s true, than couldn’t Rodgers and Adams be back channeling a deal that includes both? They tag him and package a deal with Rodgers and trade them before the league opens on March 16th. By doing this the SC issue is of tagging Adams doesn’t come into play because the deal is struck and completed prior to the new year. Wouldn’t that be a possibility?

I realize that would mean more of Rodgers SC gets hit this year and more cuts or trades would happen, but that would all be part of the rebuilding project.

You can agree a deal in principle but it can’t become official until the league new year has opened. So if Adams is tagged, we will have to get under the cap and by at least the cost of the tag in order to be able to conduct the trade. So no, to trade them they must both be on our roster and counting against our cap when FA starts and our cap must be under the maximum allowed.

Bird,
Seems to me Rodgers is deliberately waiting. Should the Packers tag Adam's and keep him than Rodgers stays one more year than they both leave in 2023. Should Adam's not be tagged he leaves and Rodgers forces a trade. If Im correct Rodger's is determined to dictate what happens with Adam's which negatively impacts the Packers. By demanding $50 million of course the Packers cannot afford to sign him and tag Adam's. I'm hopeful the Packers tag Adam's and have a team already lined up to trade him to.

I'm pretty certain Rodgers and Adam's are both gone. If true I sure hope we fleece some team for draft capital. I still believe it is Denver.

Someone else smart wrote this scenario: AR by waiting is trying to strong-arm the FO into giving Adams a big extension.

I've never liked the Aaron Rodgers we see on the field when he chews out young players or just glares at them for making a mistake. Personally, I would have LOVED to see Lazard to have stopped, turned towards Rodgers after that HORRIBLE pass to Adams into triple coverage, when Lazard was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, in his line of sight, yet totally ignored him thus screwing the Packers chances at a SB.

Yet this version of Aaron Rodgers, the wishy-washy John Wick wanna-be, has taken me to a point where I no longer want him as the QB of the GB Packers...PERIOD. He's full of shit, and IMO is one of the most selfish players I can remember.

At the end of the season and after it was all about LOVE. He LOVES the Fans, his teammates, coaches, the organization, AND he'll make a quick decision.

Then 12 days ago he goes on MacAfee and tells us the decision isn't coming today. He says the "Football Season" ends after the SB. NO AARON, your season ended with that horrible pass to Adams. YOUR season ended on January 22nd, 43 days ago.

So basically, not only are you an insecure media whore who hasn't had "IT" since SB45 which seems like a lifetime ago, but now I think you're a liar. This franchise has bent over backwards, sideways, and forward, trying to accommodate you to the point where frankly it's become embarrassing. They've F'ed up their salary cap and are even willing to F'ed it up into oblivion to make you happy, and you're TORN?

David Bakhtiari's cap hit in 2023 in $30 million with $26 million in dead cap space if cut, and $34 million in 2024, that was FOR YOU! The Packers have made several moves like this in order to please you, in order to make sure you come back with several more to come if you do decide to grace us with your presence.

DON'T... Go take you're Shaggy, Scobie Doo looking ass to Denver, Tennessee, or Pittsburgh, I DON'T CARE. I am now the BIGGEST Jordan Love supporter out there. He may not be the answer in 2022, but I'll bet with the picks we get in a trade combined with our own, he'll WHOOP UP ON YOUR ASS, if the Packers and (Denver, Tennessee, or Pittsburgh) play in 2023 or beyond.

Note to Gute, Murphy, and LaFleur... Jesus Christ have some self respect and grow some balls, you guys sound like some jilted little boys whose first love left him..

They need to make ARod look as desirable as possible because it enables the most possible positive outcomes for the team--either in making him happy in GB, making the GB fan base happy, or making him look like a good investment elsewhere. In all, they really have no choice.

I've really quit actively following any of the releases and statements because they don't mean jack until someithing official is filed with the league.

Bakh and Clark's restructures were going to happen regardless of what happens with AR. They weren't done to influence AR: they were necessities. They were necessitated last year when everyone in sight was extended/restructured. Gets harder each year a team tries to do that.

Otherwise, I enjoy a good rant. I wrote a rant on RR when he was drafted and then another real doozer or a rant after his first (or was it his second) season. Remembering them still gives me pleasure. Yours was a good rant.

Dont understand how all these news items just pop up. I guess it is click bait - sort of like when as song gets played on the radio the artist gets 2 cents.
Here is another opinion that I read and thought was really appropriate for those who complain because we didnt win the Superbowl -
even though we won 13 games 3 years in a row ------
Delusion: The Packers organization is run by idiots who refuse to spend money.
Reality: There was a kernel of truth to this delusion in the past. Mike McCarthy isn't quite an "idiot," but he's the kind of guy who takes out the five-year protection insurance when he purchases a blender. The late Ted Thompson's free-agent allergy, meanwhile, got a little ridiculous by the mid-2010s. But Brian Gutekunst, Matt LaFleur, and the current Packers braintrust has done a brilliant job finding and developing talent while spending most of their available cash on Aaron Rodgers and his targets/protectors/confidantes.
""Packers fandom suffers from a general delusion that the team is terrible or unsuccessful despite the fact that they win 13 games every single year. It's hard to comprehend how rooting for a perennial Super Bowl contender has become such a joyless exercise. Just kidding: it's easy to comprehend! Their quarterback's a bitterness and dissatisfaction superspreader! But the alternative would be rooting for the Vikings, which is too horrible to contemplate."""

Management shouldn't be eager to commit to a waffling quarterback; despite what the front office thinks they may want, it would be best for the franchise to relieve themselves of this burden once and for all and move forward with a new era in Packers football.

Take the best offer you get for Rodgers. I wouldn't mind a delayed gratification scenario where the draft compensation is spread out over two years.

Anyone can Argue with Facts that 2014, 2020, and 2021 were on him he chocked got intercepted couldn't get first downs you name it not on the defense these years. Stop comparing this man to the greats even Big Ben and Eli Manning have a better resume than this clown show Facts. At this point it is easy for the Packers say hey Aaron you want back here great sign an extension you will not walk for free next yr , cobb can play for the minimum or walk, Davante will be tagged and traded if we can't work out a deal .

Devondre Campbell, Rasul Douglass are as important as you to be signed . Jordan Love will either strive or fail .

You can go ahead and retire have fun , sign a new deal , or demand a trade which we will do if the compensation is right ,

Aaron time to join the freak parade known as the real world and quit your little charade the world won't stop without you ! Let us no today or were moving forward with pursuing a trade for you fake champion . Hey Gutey and Murph have some stones and take back your franchise ,

Just stop with this left/right crap, be a free thinker. I think most people just wanna see progress as a country. Now obviously there is a big disagreement on how is best to do that but in general we all want to live a happy life and not need for anything.

The single biggest thing that Biden is trying to do is reduce this country's dependence on Oil. Look around right now, we are all controlled by big oil corporations. They set the price and everyone must pay because we don't have many alternative sources of energy or fuel to turn to.

I don't care if you believe in global warming or climate change, that should not be the focus of my point. We are literally slaves to Oil and that needs to change. Now having said that I do believe it was a mistake for Biden to kill the pipeline deal. That oil is gonna come out of the ground and be transported with or without the pipeline so we might as well have benefited from it.

So regardless of whether you consider yourself on the left or the right, a liberal or a conservative. All of our goals should be to make real changes that improve our quality of life not just enrich the rich and continue to be slaves to fossil fuels. Green is the way to go about that, clean renewable energy should be the focus of the world, not just this country. Oil has too big of an effect on the global economy and that isn't how it should be.

And I no longer drink at all. Still, not falling for that again: he can drink that garbage. I just advised him to get it as cold as possible because IIRC that's the only way it is at all tolerable.

I still see 1 year and he'll be a Free Agent. Is he worried about being Tagged after that? Or is this a dare game now. The packers said they want him back. He has a contract. It's over. Why are they even waiting for a decision now? The FO has to forget about making everyone happy. We don't need the highest paid "players" in the NFL.

If he breaks the contract...it's for a trade that will benefit the Packers. His ego is too big to retire.
Life and games will go on in GB with or without the ... "I'll let you know diva." Guess he's waiting on DA 17and his franchise deal and decision.

Per Tom Silverstein: "Rodgers indicated on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he wants to see whether the Packers use the franchise tag, but if he really wants to play with Adams again, he needs to let the Packers know his plans right now. They have to get serious with Adams so they can either reach a contract extension that will drastically lower his cap number or offer him up in a sign-and-trade."

THIS. Is Rodgers seriously gonna sit around and wait for them to make a decision on Adams?? This comes down to communication, and I hope the front office made it clear that they won't make a decision on Adams until Rodgers makes his decision first. If everyone is looking to someone else to make a decision, then nothing is going to get done until the deadlines hit.

That is the point Ross! Rodgers and Adam's intentionally set their salary expectations so high that that they know the Packers likely won't sign both. Meaning the hope would be the Packers do not tag Adam's. If Adam's isn't signed Rodgers leaves.

Rodgers and Adam's are in collusion working this together to leverage the Packers to do what they want. Either pay us outlandish dollars for both of us, or we are gone. The Packers cannot tag Adam's without Rodgers agreeing to stay. I see the Packers publicly saying they want Rodgers, however unless they sign/tag Adam's the message is they really do not want Rodgers. If they don't tag/sign Adam's they force Rodgers to ask for a trade and the Packers get rid of the choking diva, but publicly come out looking good.

I feel fairly confident this is the Packers approach.

Part everyone is missing is when Gute said no one called him about a trade. There are already deals in place going through the packers organization depending where Mr. Prima Donna wants to play. Since Rodgers is determining where he is going there is no bidding between the teams for his service so therefore they wont get the best deal as the teams he wants to be traded to will get exclusive rights to him

Not a Rodgers defense, but no one person has ever won a football game. It’s takes 11 guys at a time, all doing their job for 60 minutes of regulation play, to win a football game. That is why it’s called a team sport.

Not to oppose you, but one, especially one who suppose to be the most important player on the field, can lose the game for the team.

Like general who is not obbey battle plan, QB can lose that game for the team. Despite some parts of the army did their job and execute plan. But when your army is not able to attack your opponent, defense will brake down eventually. "Special forces" (ST) pushed to way back, under unfavorable condition, can also influence on the outcome of the battle. But the mistake is always on general who leads offensive, not on parts of the army (team) he knows is weak chain. But, when you lose control on yourself and become uninterested in outcome, you are the guilty one for the loss.

That is indeed what I am inferring. It's also great for cattle, horses, and a fantastic heartworm preventative in dogs.

If you're inferring it is good for nothing more than horse wormer, tape worms, and head lice you would be mistaken.

Just do a quick search of "Peer Reviewed studies on Ivermectin in relation to Covid" and you will find plenty of studies outside the U.S. and you can make up your own mind.

Or, you can just parrot those who say, "Orange man bad - flat earthers - etc. etc."

Here is a short excerpt from just one random Peer reviewed study...

"There is also evidence emerging from countries where ivermectin has been implemented. For example, Peru had a very high death toll from COVID-19 early on in the pandemic.128 Based on observational evidence, the Peruvian government approved ivermectin for use against COVID-19 in May 2020.128 After implementation, death rates in 8 states were reduced between 64% and 91% over a two-month period.128 Another analysis of Peruvian data from 24 states with early ivermectin deployment has reported a drop in excess deaths of 59% at 30+ days and of 75% at 45+ days."

I'm really not here to argue though. You can believe what the news tells you to believe, or you can do your own research. It's not hard to search for Peer Reviewed Studies. Sure you can find plenty in the U. S. that do not agree with these findings too.

I suppose it could be that AR is looking at the personnel that would survive for 2022, where his own contract would have to come in at, and wondering how he is supposed to win a super bowl with lesser talent than there was in 2021? And yet, the talent is pretty good in many respects with no other team really looking that much better on paper.

Or he just be strong-arming the FO to re-sign Adams.
Or he could be genuinely indecisive.
IDK.

I've said pretty much all along Adam's is the key to Rodgers. Ransom note...pay Adam's a shit load of money, or I'm gone! Adam's sign I sign! Adam's leaves than I leave.

I have somehow hoped the Packers could tag and trade Adam's but do not believe that can happen. If Adam's is tagged than Rodgers will stay. If Adam's isn't than both leave.

I think you both are kind of right. I know DA doesn't want to be tagged. AR said as much, but it is also the only way we can get compensation this year from Adams, as opposed to waiting for a Comp Pick next year. I think AR is waiting to see if the Packers can figure out a way to tag Adams, so he can ask for a trade, in the hope they will also trade Adams in the package deal I hope is already on the table.

Bird,
That has been my hope all along but the longer this drags out I'm questioning it will happen. Sure be a wonderful surprise to see the tag/trade possibly straight up for someone like Jerry Jeudy. Can dream for Noah Fant, TE as a 4.5 guy in the 40 yards he can line up inside and out but do not see Denver agreeing to this if there was a trade. They have a surplus of WR's (especially if they were to pick-up Adam's as part of the Rodgers trade), but not at TE.

Human nature is to want all we can get for AR/DA. I do too. I hope they just get the deal done and both sides feel like it was a good deal. I want to feel like we got adequate compensation.

For AR: 1st and 2nd round pick this year and next year.

For DA: I would be happy with a 2nd round pick this year, because if we were to let him walk, we would only receive a 3rd round comp pick. I would also be happy with a 2024 1st round pick for DA. ; )

(They could throw in a player too. Don't care to speculate who, because there are too many to choose from.) XD

Some people will say that isn't enough for AR/DA. Some will say it's too much. I think it's fair, plus the cap savings we would get from AR/DA will let us operate easily, without fear of destroying our future cap situation. I just want what is best for the Packers going forward.

The longer it goes, the more I think when it all starts on Tuesday, everything will happen very fast. Could DA have purchased a house in Vegas because he knows he's going to Vegas? I suppose he could've, if he knows something we don't know. Denver has cap space available and if it was a stipulation of them getting AR, I believe they'd do it in a heartbeat. If we had the available cap space, I believe AR/DA would be in GB this year, but we don't. They both want to get paid, but they both want to play together too, so who knows? I'm guessing we won't have to wait past Tuesday afternoon to find out though.

TGR,
It also begs the question does the Packer FO really truly want Rodgers back? Certainly if they don't they have to toe the corporate PR line and say all the right things that they do for the fans. However, if they know (and I believe this to be true) that Rodgers will only stay with the Packers should Adam's be resigned/tagged, subsequently they do not resign/tag Adam's they intentionally force Rodger's hand to go elsewhere. By doing this it makes Rodger's out to be the bad apple and takes the PR pressure off the Packer FO. This scenario would be a PR genius move other than the fact the Packers would only get possibly a 3rd round of compensation in 2023.

Like Bird is saying I sure hope the Packers can somehow tag/sign Adam's and bundle him along with Rodgers to another team for maximum compensation. However, I have no doubt that neither Rodger's or Adam's would prefer for that to happen (vs Adam's leave as a FA and sign wherever Rodger's does) as any extra compensation for Adam's simply weakens the team they are going to. Sure a lot of moving parts with a lot of people/franchises with many different motivations involved in all this. Unfortunately at least from here it sure seems like Rodger's and Adam's have the upper hand in the final outcome, as I sure do not see them working together with the Packer FO to make sure should they leave that the Packers will get the most compensation as possible for the franchise.

This is a possibility, one that I could only speculate upon. IDK.

One thing that comes to mind is that if this is so, AR is playing the public relations game very badly. He doesn't seem good at PR in general, so there is that. Or perhaps he doesn't really care about the optics.
