Romeo Doubs NFL Draft Prospect Profile and Scouting Report

NFL Prospect Profile: Romeo Doubs, WR, Nevada

Name: Romeo Doubs

School: Nevada

Year: Sr

Position: Wide Receiver

Measurables: 6’2’, 201 lbs.

Stats:

General Info:

Doubs is from Los Angeles, California, and attended Jefferson High School. He was recruited by both Nevada and Rutgers but chose to play his college ball with the Wolf Pack.

As a freshman, Doubs returned a punt 80 yards for touchdown on his first collegiate touch.

The receiver featured in all 13 games as a freshman, starting nine of them, and went on to play a further 30 games between his sophomore and junior senior season, increasing his totals for yards and touchdowns each year.

Doubs was named to the All-Mountain West First Team in both 2020 and 2021, racking up over 1,000 yards in each season.

The Packers brought Doubs in for a ‘Top 30’ visit ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

Doubs is a legitimate deep threat receiver, which is illustrated by the fact he put up over 1,000 yards in 2020 on just 58 catches. He is able to gain separation downfield and also tracks the deep ball well. Doubs is a long strider and his speed eats up the cushion of cornerbacks playing off.

He possesses the hands to finish on difficult catches downfield and in general catches the ball away from his body. Doubs also showed the ability to make catches in traffic over the middle of the field.

When corners decide to press Doubs, he is able to beat them off the line using his feet and quickly get into a good position to be available to his quarterback.

Doubs is a smooth route runner and he showed the ability to break them off underneath as well as run longer developing, double move routes. Against zone coverage, he is able to find soft spots and sit down.

At 6’2’, 201 lbs., Doubs is a good size for the receiver position, especially for the Packers, who value bigger receivers. His physical nature allows him to fight through contact when out on his route.

Doubs has some versatility in that he was lined up in different spots, both outside and in the slot.

He was used on quick passes to get the ball in his hands as soon as possible. His straight-line speed and physicality then help him get yards after the catch. Doubs also has experience returning punts.

Weaknesses

While Doubs is a smooth mover, his routes do lack some precision at times and can be a little loose. That could allow ball-hawking defensive backs in the NFL to break on the ball.

At this time, Doubs is not a great blocker, but his build should allow him to become at least a functional one if he has the ‘want-to’.

Doubs previously had some issues with drops, but this seemed to be corrected in 2021, when his hands were strong and natural.

One part of the evaluation which is missing for Doubs is athletic testing, so teams will have to trust the tape in terms of what they deem this athletic profile to be.

Fit with the Packers:

Overall, Doubs appears to be a well-rounded receiver who can make plays at all levels while also offering a serious deep threat.

Doubs could provide an immediate replacement for Marquez Valdes-Scantling and has the potential to develop into a primary target over time. Doubs’ 20 touchdowns across the 2020 and 2021 seasons also show his potential upside in the redzone.

He would fit Green Bay’s preference for bigger, physical receivers, and the team clearly has an interest in Doubs after hosting him on a pre-draft visit. Watch out for Doubs’ name on day two of the 2022 NFL Draft as a potential target for the Packers.

Amen, If Carson Strong should fall favorably it could be a twofer for UNR, Strong & Doubs. Living in Reno, I have watched both of these guys and think they both have a great chance in the NFL.

Now in the second round. He's one of the better wides. Prolific offense, three year starter.

Huge hands and long arms. Coach him up and he's a lot like Davante Adams if he's able to put on a few pounds of muscle.

Yeah, it was hard to read that and not see a poor-man's Davante.

Increasing college production every year is a big "green flag" for me.

If he is available in the 4th, take him. I might even move up in the 3rd. Easy for me to say. Go Gutey Go.

Packers have had good luck with high-volume, "mid-major" WR over recent years--Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Davante Adams. Doubs fits that category. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in GB. Skyy Moore fits that profile, too, but may suffer from being small in the Packers' eyes.

Yeah. Skyy Moore is similar to Jennings being a W. MI player and caught tons of balls. I just wish he was bigger too. Don't think the Packers need a 3rd, smaller slot. Good player, lousy fit for the Pack.

Throw to the spot, he will be there and RAC will ensue. The Packer Way is long past its due date.

two things - the main "scoop" from Aaron was that Waller was supposed to be in the Davante deal, but the league shot it down because of the newly added rule about not being able to include a player in any trade for a franchise tagged player that hadn't signed it. That part has been confirmed by multiple people. As for the Packers pursuing a trade for Waller - just because people on the Raiders side are now saying that it's not going to happen, it doesn't mean the Packers weren't trying.

Big Physical Receiver who has the ability to gain seperation
and can return kicks, sounds like a very good selection if
he is available on the third day of the draft.

I'm hoping that the Packers DO NOT select Dotson from
Penn State as some experts are predicting. You cannot
waste a high pick on WR who is only 5'10 and weights 180 LBS.
and will be physically overmatched going against the more
taller and physical DB's in the NFL.
