Running Backs Running Out

With PJ Pope possibly missing extended time, it would seem inevitable that the Packers would have to bring in a running back, if only to lighten the load on the backs currently upright in camp, right? Apparently not. And, to make things more intriguing, we have this little blurb from today's Journal Sentinel, which is, I think, the first positive word we've heard or read about seventh rounder DeShawn Wynn since camp started. Let's hope it's the first of many, as he has the necessary skill set to be a feature back. The questions have been about his desire and discipline. This bit sounds promising in that regard.

Jackson has been running in the No. 1 spot since Morency got hurt the first day of practice, but Wynn is making a strong push after losing 10 pounds because of a stomach virus right before camp began. Wynn is a seventh-round pick with a reputation for being an underachiever, but he seems to be more motivated now that he's in the National Football League.

"Wynn is a good football player," McCarthy said. "Clearly, where he was drafted and how it equates to what he's done in training camp doesn't add up in my opinion. I think he's a gifted young man, very intelligent. He has picked up the scheme rapidly. I think he has exceptional feet in and out of the hole. He's been impressive in the number of opportunities that he's had."
