Terrence Parsons Jr. Offers Honest Timeline for Micah's Return

Sit tight, Packer fans. The return of Micah Parsons is probably going to take longer than many had hoped.

Parsons suffered a season-ending knee injury on December 14th against the Denver Broncos. The initial diagnosis was a torn ACL, and Micah revealed last week that the surgery — which took place on December 29th — also included a meniscus cleanup, adding another layer to his recovery. The Packers' medical staff operates under a strict nine-month rule of no football activity following ACL surgeries, and Parsons sounds fully bought in. "We have a pretty strong nine-month rule," he shared. "It's just all about, through the research and the data, there's no good outcomes with players coming back early. Especially if you had other things that had to get fixed up — so it's just all about completing the rehab to the best of our ability and then seeing where we're at from there."

The expectation was always that Micah would miss time to start the season. If he opens the year on the physically unable to perform list, he'd miss a minimum of four games and couldn't begin practicing until Week 5 at the earliest. Based on the nine-month timeline, that might be more optimistic than realistic.

Following that nine-month timeline, Micah would first be eligible to return to football activities on September 29th — but that would be the best-case scenario. Realistically, it will likely be later. His older brother Terrence Parsons Jr. offered additional insight, cautioning fans that while September 29th is technically possible, Micah likely won't set foot on a practice field until mid-October — pushing any return to game action even further down the road.

Resetting Expectations

“I really believe it’ll be Week 8.”

When interacting with Packer fans on X on Sunday, Terrence Parsons Jr. encouraged fans to reset their expectations for his brother’s return — but it's probably not what fans were hoping to hear. When asked how many games Micah would miss, Terrence Jr. didn't sugarcoat it: "I'm going to say at least 6. We won't practice until October. Realistically, it's gonna be at least 6." Many fans had been holding onto a very optimistic timeline. The hope was that Micah would open the season on the PUP list, return to practice in Week 3, and make his debut in Week 5 against the Bears or Week 6 against the Cowboys. Terrence Jr. shot that down quickly. "That's not realistic…at all."

The Packers have traditionally been conservative with ACL recoveries, and the recent track record confirms that. Rashan Gary tore his ACL during the 2022 season and didn't return to practice for 290 days — game action came 308 days after the injury. Elgton Jenkins tore his ACL in 2021, returned to practice after 267 days, and was back in games after 302. Jenkins later acknowledged he came back sooner than he should have. Christian Watson was the one outlier, returning to game action just 294 days after a January 2025 ACL tear — though the Packers still gave him nearly three full weeks of practice before clearing him to play.

If Micah follows a similar timeline — roughly 280 days — he could potentially return to practice around October 5th, right after Week 4. Terrence Jr. confirmed as much: "I'm telling you he's not touching the practice field until mid-October — you do the math…He most likely won't touch the practice field until Week 4 or 5, fact." From there, the Packers would likely give him two to three weeks of practice before clearing him for game action — pushing his debut to Week 7 at the earliest, and more realistically Week 8 on October 29th against the Carolina Panthers.

Could the Packers play it even safer and hold Micah until the second half of the season? It's possible, but Terrence Jr. was confident that it wouldn't be necessary. "Oh, definitely — by mid-November he will play his first game."

All or Nothing

One thing is certain — Micah Parsons isn't going to rush back. "The goal for me is to complete the season, no relapse, playoffs, and pushing towards a championship," Parsons said last week. "The goal isn't for me to go out there and re-hurt myself trying to force myself back the first few games. The goal has always been playoffs, and I think we're all on the same page."

Terrence Jr. repeatedly reinforced that point. His brother will wait until his knee is fully healthy, free of limitations, and with plenty of ramp-up time. "You think a guy who hasn't had any practice is just gonna play after 2 weeks? Or 1 week? H–– no," he wrote. "(It's) gonna be at least a 3-week ramp-up period. He has to make sure he's 100% and has no limitations…He can start practicing. That doesn't mean he will. Go watch his interview — he's literally telling you guys he's not coming back until he's 100 percent. That's what's most important."

It's not the news Packer fans were hoping for, but it's the right call. Fortunately, both sides appear to be on the same page. The Packers made Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with a four-year, $186 million extension that included $136 million in guaranteed money. They're not bringing him back a week early to risk that investment. They want him healthy for the long haul, and Parsons wants the same thing.

This process hasn’t been easy on Parsons, which he candidly shared. "Not only is it hard to accept that I’m going to miss more time than what I want, but obviously hard to accept the injury," Parsons said. "It constantly replays in my brain. … I haven't accepted it yet, but I work hard as hell every day trying to make sure that I will be better when I come out of this."

If it takes longer. It does.

This will be a challenging time if no veteran pass rusher is signed. If not, I guess we'll find out in a hurry how schematically clever Gannon is and whether or not a couple of our younger guys have taken a noticeable step forward as far as sacking the QB. Also if not, we might not have the luxury of easing DDS into the starting rotation, so we'll see; we can't afford giving opposing QBs all day to throw... It's really important that we get through training camp and preseason without any more injuries to this group.

I suspect Mssrs Cox and Sorrell are looking forward to the challenge of backstopping one of the league's best.

Give Mr. Parsons as much time as he needs. He asks more of his connective tissue than most.

Getting him out there before he’s 100% just means getting a lesser player and, quite probably, injuring him before he hits his full stride. Nothing his brother said is surprising.

This is the year of Brenton Cox and for Gute to show that one of his draft picks is the real thing. Cox actually averages less snaps per sack than Parsons. That’s not going to be maintained, and he’s not double teamed either, but at least we have one guy who has shown he can do it whenever he’s given a real chance.

We need to find another who can do that too. We will need at least 3 genuine threats in the New Year when Parsons is back and games really matter anyway. If we don’t get that far, then we need new leadership.

Under-promise and over-deliver. If anyone can exceed expectations, Parson's can.

Parsons is a man just like all other men. He is not a superhero. I said after this injury that he would not play until half the season.

Parsons first said he would miss one game. I said half the season. Looks to me like he over promised.

I'm sure he and the team will error towards the certain and the team even if he thinks he's ready.

Gute might just have to rent a sack if things don't shake out favorably in camp.

Right now, just hoping he can get fully healthy and resume his career. He is just awesome to watch.

A long way to go before TC, but really looking forward to how the DL and Edge compete and progress. Still very possible that Gute goes out and brings a veteran in to bolster the PR.

If we can't win a game without Parsons, and since his injury we haven't, then we're going to have a very tough start to the 2026 season. I don't want Parsons to return until he is 100% ready to play. Hopefully that doesn't.mean the Packers will be 0-7 or worse without Parsons. If we are then the Packers need a new HC.
On the other side we'll find out what Gannon has pretty early in the season. Thanks, Since '61

If we can’t get sacks without Parsons then we won’t be good enough in the New Year with him anyway. Parsons can’t carry this DL on his own. Just cold reality.

If we cannot win games without Parsons then people are not doing their jobs and should be fired. This is a team.

This is why you do not trade 2 first round draft picks and a good veteran player and pay all that money for one play.

Put all your eggs in one basket and we know what happens.

Of course we need to wait until Micah is 100%, don't mess with this investment.

Micah states that he wants to go full bore for the playoffs, which makes sense. However, with him missing X amount of games early on, will we make the playoffs?

We have issues going on now as to signing extensions to some of our players such as Kraft and Wyatt and possibly more. We also need to stay within our CAP so how do we move forward to ensure we win enough games to get into the playoffs, and not by the skin or our teeth like the last few years.

I hear some say that we need to sign another pass rusher and there are a few out there who could help us immediately and make a difference as well when Micah does come back. I am now in that camp. We have quite a few DE's that are decent but unproven. Can we wait to see them explode? Will they explode on the field this next season or ever? Who knows?

One thing that should help our CAP is that we have a lot of draft picks next year and if they make the team, some of the higher paid guys may be traded or forced out. That should help us determine (at least the FO) if we can sign another DE and extend a few players as well.

In summary, we have to protect our investment in Micah and still win while waiting for him to join the team on the field!

If a NFL team is in the position that one guy (non QB) decides whether they succeed or fail.
Maybe they didn't have, what they though they had.

They call it a Championship team....for a reason.
****************
The following is a rare anomaly, but...as much as i didn't care for the guy, what he pulled off was absolutely remarkable.
I bring this up because of it's relevance to the article.

Adrian Peterson made a miraculous return to the field just 8 months after tearing both his ACL and MCL on December 24, 2011. He underwent reconstruction surgery on December 30, 2011, and was ready to start Week 1 of the NFL season for the Minnesota Vikings in September 2012.

That season, he went on to rush for over 2,000 yards, with...a 6 yard average and 10 TDS

By Terrence Parsons forecast it would be a 10 game regular season schedule for Micah. However his snaps will be restricted for at least the first 2 games coming back from an ACL. As Parsons has averaged approximately 52 snaps per game throughout his career. I would expect anywhere from 20-25 snaps upon his first game back. And somewhere around 30-35 snaps with his next game. So in short - Parsons may be available - on a full time basis - for one half a season. If so - then this still may impel Gutekunst to add a veteran Edge. Should the price be right.

IMO Sweat is still a player of interest for Gutekunst. Currently it appears that there is an ask of a 2nd or a 3rd and a Day 3 pick for Sweat. It is likely that this price is too high for Gutekunst (and possibly others). However should the asking price by the Cardinals be reduced - I expect that it would re-activate Gutekunst's interest in acquiring the Edge player.

A case can certainly be made that the Packers have sufficient candidates for the Edge position. However acquiring a player of Sweat's caliber - especially at a favorable cost - can also be justified for a team on a championship run.

Under the current set of circumstances negotiations for Josh Sweat should be heating up if we are to be a serious contender. If Parsons comes back sooner it will not be a problem having both Sweat and Parsons. In fact, a very good problem to have.

I'm not sure about the packer d. Gutt didn't do much to improve it imo. We could be in a serious hole when Parsons does come back. Plus he may not be the same guy he was in the past. You never know but I do know he won't just step in and be his old self. That will take playing time and the clock will be ticking if we're in a hole.
Hopefully we can muster some kind of a pass rush without him. Let's hope.
PS: I still won't be missing Gary.

How about getting three new CBs? Two in the draft and one FA. How about a veteran linebacker to replace Quay, a guy who is better at diagnosing plays? How about two new D line guys, one with veteran experience and one athletic rookie? How about an edge rusher who was never expected to last as long as he did? And there might be more. Roster isn’t set yet.

We had the Smith boys. Gary. Kenny. Campbell
And Rodger’s and MLf blew it over Tampa

Played scared.

Brady 3 picks at Lambeau Defense did its job

Defense did its job two times in Chicago. Both games without the MP of the defense

MLf blew the leads both times ….both times. And Mcmiss or McManus

MLf ran the ball 3 times in the 3rd qtr. just like Mike Holmgren didn’t keep running the ball vs Denver in Super Bowl

I head Andy Reid was pissed for years after that. And still is I bet…

The defense did its part in Chicago twice. The head coach and. Speical Should have beat Denver last year also

Notice I didn’t spell speical teams correctly. Besides they are not. Other than the punter. D W.

one thing being overlooked here is the fact we won't have Gary wasting snaps, we have a group of young aggressive pass rushers all eager to prove themselves, we may be pleasantly surprised by one maybe more.
