The Lass Word: Trading for a Receiver Doesn't Make Sense

Why take on somebody else's disappointment?

As the losses continue to pile up, the drum beat grows louder for the Green Bay Packers to trade for a receiver before the trade deadline November first.  I get it.  Certainly, the receiver position is a problem.  Injuries have depleted the unit, and those who have been able to play have been inconsistent at best.

But I can’t help thinking that giving away future draft capital to acquire somebody is short sighted for several reasons.  First of all, what the Packers need is a true number one receiver.  Nobody is going to trade a true number one.  They are too hard to find.  What other teams will offer is either a former number one that is well past his prime (think AJ Green), or a high round draft pick that has never panned out (think Denzel Mims), or a one year wonder that has since come back down to earth (think Kenny Golladay).  Other names I have heard as trade prospects include Kadarius Toney, Kendrick Bourne, Chase Claypool, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore and DJ Moore.

Every one of those players has been a disappointment to their team, so I’m not surprised they are being shopped.  Ask yourself, would someone like that really make a significant difference on the Green Bay offense?  Are any of them significantly better than Sammy Watkins or Allen Lazard?  Or would every one of them be just another new guy that Aaron Rodgers won’t throw to because they haven’t earned his “trust”?  Shouldn’t the Packers first find out exactly what they have in guys like Juwann Winfree and Samori Toure?  None of the aforementioned trade prospects are going to relaunch Green Bay into the playoff picture.  They’re just bodies.  And if that’s true, then what’s the point of a trade?  It’s just a waste of draft picks.

Odell Beckham?  That would be an even bigger mistake.  He will demand a lot of money from a cap-strapped team, he’s coming off knee surgery, and he’s a locker room problem waiting to happen.  Sign him, and within three weeks, he’ll either be complaining about not getting enough targets, or he’ll be back on IR with another injury.

It’s time to face reality.  The Packers are what they are this season.  The only way they are going to start winning again is for the coaches to coach better, and for the players on the field to play better.  That’s true across the board at every position.  It’s too late to bring in anyone who can make a difference, unless you trade away your future drafts.  That makes no sense because Green Bay is looking at a rebuild regardless.  It will start this offseason.  Hang on to your draft picks.  If anything, sell off a few veterans like Bakhtiari and Amos and stock pile more draft capital.

The receiver position should get better when Cobb and Watson come back and Lazard gets healthy.  Bringing in someone from the outside just retards the development of Watson, Romeo Doubs and Toure.

-- Count me among those who was put off by Aaron Rodgers remarks on the Pat McAfee show this week.  Particularly his comment about how it may be time to crack the whip on the offense, how those who are making repeated mistakes should no longer be playing.  Coming from him, that really rubbed me the wrong way.  Nobody on this team has been more disappointing than Rodgers himself.  Yes, his receivers have dropped a lot of passes, but Rodgers has continually thrown the ball inaccurately, continued to miss open players downfield.  This ridiculous notion that receivers have to gain his trust in order to be targeted has played itself out.  Just throw the dang ball and give them a chance to make a play.  Let the coaches decide who should be on the field. Focus on doing your job.

-- For some strange reason which I cannot justify, I actually have a feeling the Packers will keep this game against Buffalo reasonably close.  I believe Jaire Alexander will follow Stephon Diggs all over the field and keep him from going crazy.  The pass catcher who may have a big day is the guy on the other side, Gabe Davis.  He’s a deep threat and Eric Stokes may not be able to handle him.  I can also see quarterback Josh Allen hurting the Packers with his ability to run.  I expect Green Bay to get lots of pressure on him, but I also suspect he will escape and make big plays with his legs.  Running back Devin Singletary is going to test Green Bay’s ability to set the edge again, and he may escape around the corners for long yardage.  Usually, I wonder if the defense can play well enough to keep us in the game while the offense tries to figure things out.  This game is sort of the opposite.  I wonder if the offense can do anything to keep the Packers in the game while the defense tries to hold back the charge.

Game Prediction:  Bills 31  Packers 20

Star of the Game:  Romeo Doubs

Upset Special of the Week:  Bears over Cowboys

Wise words indeed Ken.

WHY EVER TAKE ON ANOTHER TEAM'S PLAYERS?

Do we want to be like the Chiefs who traded for Toney?

Or the Eagles who traded for AJ Brown this offseason and Quinn yesterday?

Or last year's Rams who traded for Von Miller and Matt Stafford?

Or the 2020 Bucs who traded for Gronk & JPP?

We like outrguys, we do what we do, and the rest of the NFL looks up to Gutey and the Packer Front Office for all those Super Bowls that Packers have been over the past 12 seasons.

Ken, more or less we are on the ssme page. Only, I really doubt that Romeo Doubs will elevate his game to become star of the game. He lost his confidence after that nulified TD. That is obvious. He is not decisive as he been in first few games. Why is that, I do not know. It may be that either coaches or his team mates wrongly press him for that mistake.

On the other hand, I would love him to rise to occasion and to fulfill your preditcion.

I think he's probably feeling a lot of pressure, way more pressure than a rookie should be under. He knows this team is underperforming and he knows MLF/12 are stressed. He has to be lining up every play focused on not screwing up, which isn't a great mental space to be in. Just another area where if the team could fix its core issues, these side issues might disappear.

This is gonna be a tight game from the first snap to the second snap, then its all a dumpster storm from here. I'm glad in a way, always thought Gutt wasnt the genius but the boy idiot drafting cheap as players to keep the money down to pay Rodgers. I'll always beleive Gary would have been a good second round pick but not a 12.

Maybe the WR should go to the turf and layout for the catch, like most Pros would. Where do you think Brady tossed to Edelman, or Welker. The tosses were not always perfect.

“Our hearts must grow resolute, our courage more valiant, our spirits must be greater, though our strength grows less.”

In the wake of the death of Byrhtnoth in 991, whose overconfidence in his strength and abilities doomed him. Refusing an offer to trade gold for relief, he doubled down on the his faith in his retinue and belief in the rectitude of his position and lost his and their lives heroically to the Vikings in a cause lost through over confidence.

Sometimes the past speaks still and echoes eerily if a tad frivolously. This quote though would do well if adopted by us this weekend. From the old English poem The Battle of Maldon, circa 995.

Agree. The future has been sacrificed so this team can exist in its current form, no need to do further future damage so this team can improve.

If this was a great team in all phases and Lazard went down with a season ending injury, sure go get a WR to keep the team rolling. But this team has so many issues to work on that a playoff appearance is in question, let alone postseason wins. No way this team should be sacrificing the future so this team can be one and done in the playoffs again.

"The future has been sacrificed"

I'm not sure how true that is, Cubbygold. I assume you're talking about Rodgers contract and how money was pushed into the future. It appears to me that if Rodgers retires at the end of the season, the future impact on our cap isn't that forboding, especially if the cap increases a bunch.

I could really use a good explanation of the real cost if he retires.

As far as this season, Rodgers will either rally his team and we'll play a lot better, or he won't and we won't. Either way, I think this is the end of the line.

I've seen a cap hit anywhere from $99 million to $60 million next year if he retires. I think the $99 million is the correct number.

$40M dead if he retires or is traded. That means a decrease in cap space of just over $8M.

If he plays, GB has to pay him $59M in cash in July IIRC (around training camp), pushing the dead from $40M to $99M.

I see trading for a good RG and/or RT as helping more. It's all about the OL, better run blocking and pass blocking and fewer penalties.

Then need to eliminate bonehead mental mistakes (drops and turnovers). One WR isn't going to fix all that.

Totally agree with the article. I’ll say it again, the Packers should be sellers not buyers. One WR isn’t going to do it. Time to stockpile picks, minimize crushing cap crisis and play the folks who are and are not making mistakes. Let’s see Touree. Let’s see Love for four weeks so the 50m thumb can heal. More Deguara. Hell, even run Amari Rodgers out there as a WR so we can finally stick a dagger in that draft pick.

Amari played 16 snaps on offense against the Commanders, you didn't notice? 😁 Someone tweeted this week that he ran 7 routes on pure pass plays and of those 7 he ran 3 incorrectly. If you haven't gotten a grasp on the playbook in a year and a half? The dagger might not be stuck but it's drawing blood.

In college he was schemed open and given the ball in space to run after the catch. He didn’t really run a route tree in a conventional sense, less so even than Watson. He’s still that guy.

I’ve been vocal about the need to move in from him. Originally I thought that the idea of a younger Cobb type made sense, but it became clear to me that Rodgers isn’t that. Ok, so what does the coaching staff do? Pretty much everything but use him in the role he filled in college.

If we are going to play Rodgers, then accept that we have to use him in space. Scheme that and let him run. If we do that, he will help us. If we use him for more then we are wasting a spot in which even Winfree or Fulgham offers more. Whatever Rodgers deficiencies, we could have used him this year productively, since he was active. We instead promoted and didn’t really use Winfree.

Now he’s not returning, even this week Ridgers probably shouldn’t be active, but the way he’s been handled is just inept from both a developmental and tactical perspective. It’s the LaFleur era in microcosm.

I don't think it should matter much what kind of system you played in in college. If you don't have a grasp on the playbook after a year and a half it's either an intelligence or effort issue. I'm fine with putting him on the PS and giving him a last chance shot next camp but he shouldn't be on the roster anymore.

I was not on board with trading for a WR until about 2 weeks ago. That is when it became pretty clear to me that this current unit just needs someone else brought in. Someone who is reliable. Someone who can stay on the field. The top of our WR unit has missed too many games. They need someone else that is reliable catching and could potentially be a deep threat. When Watson is playing, it changes the way defenses play with us. When he isn't, it feels like we have little speed.

What a difference a reliable WR would have made the last few games. The last few games if they had a WR that could be reliable and catch 3rd down passes, that keeps drives moving. If they keep drives moving who knows what happens. We have had really bad timing of dropped passes. And balls that hit the WR's in the hands.

Also, if there is a deep threat, that opens up the offense. Defenses can't just play downhill because they aren't worried about anyone beating them deep, that makes a huge difference.

They just really need some consistency at the WR position. Perhaps they will get it with injured players coming back. But the only player that hasn't missed time has been Doubs. Cobb will be out for a few weeks yet. And with Watkins/Watsons injuries who knows if they can remain healthy. Lazard won't be playing this week, and who knows about the next few games.

Also, if they make a bigger move, lets say trade for DJ Moore. That could ignite the team. That could bring some energy to the team.

Its time to add someone. I still have hope for this team! They just may need a boost.

With 24 rec, 16.1 avg, 2 TDs, and 17 FD--- I would take a youthful Jeudy for a 3rd round pick. However, if the O line doesn't start blocking, it won't matter who is at WR, RB, or QB.

I wasn't suggesting that Jeudy, or someone similar, would be enough to fix this dysfunctional offense. I was just disagreeing with the OP that he could be had for a 3rd.

But, that being said, I would still give up a 3rd in a heartbeat for a young, quality player on a rookie contract that the team would have control over for at least the next 2 years.

But it's a moot point. No way Denver makes that trade.

Im with you but trading him the year before last. For sure could have gotten a 1,2 and 5 no pick, with our own, we could have bundled and gotten a young stud qb not named be love, a shut down corner, line backer and run stuffer. Plus good picks the following year since we wouldn't have made the playoffs and our rebuild would be this year's draft to finish.

I'd also like to find out what we have in Winfree and Toure, as well as Amari Rodgers, plus more of Doubs and Watson.
At the same time, I wouldn't mind trading for a wide receiver if it was a fair deal. No panic, no overpaying.
***
In any case, Aaron Rodgers has to throw them the ball.
Give these guys an opportunity to be the primary receiver at times during a game, and throw it to them if at all open. A quarterback getting $50 million per season should be precise.
If the primary receiver is covered, have a secondary receiver that Rodgers can find as a quick alternative.
After that, have a safety valve running back or tight end to throw to, or throw the ball away.
Rodgers can roll out at times to facilitate throwing the ball away without an intentional grounding penalty, if his first two reads are covered.
Mix in the deep throws, especially on third-and-long, when an interception can be comparable to a punt, especially if the other receivers trail the play to make a tackle if necessary.
***
What all of these ideas have in common is to keep the passing game quick and simple.
Also, it's important for receivers to feel as though there's at least an intention to get them targets from time to time. That naturally gets the adrenalin flowing for more energy and more focus overall.
More encouragement from our quarterback would also do wonders for our receivers, it seems to me.

Lambeau Londe wast in trepidation. Verily, dark portents of doom were everywhere after a loss so calamitous few wouldst name it. All they had to look forward to was Love, and in him few had faith. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth was there in the taverns.

Then up rode Lord Murphy on the gleaming charger Hubris. He knowingly surveyed his Theigns, secure in the excess of wisdom that saw him mounted so illustriously. “I have a vision of rings and Silver” he proclaimed. “I bring thee that which I know thine hearts doth desire most.”

Thrice he turned around muttering the magic words 4th MVP. Then he waived his magic executive pointer and said we can do it, for what we thought lost can be yet be gained.

Plucky Sir Gute said but “I have no receivers, for young Love the Esquire knows not how to use them”. Charming Sir Flower was brave and dashing in off season mode and did kiss the feet of his master most earnestly and promise to echo his every word. Sir Ball merely scowled, clutched his purse and caressed a shekel.

“Prithee ignore Sir Gute and his inconvenient roster” quoth our hero. Am I not your liege lord and master and the seer of our realm? “I say we need not worry about Shekels, we will simply spend ones we do not yet have, for what we have not cannot hurt us.” “Call back St Aaron and shower him with alms and flatteries.”

The assembled then murmured that our hotspur, Sir Adams has left the field for amity and family and returneth not. Sir Murphy wouldst none of that hear. “Fie on your doubts. For I am anointed by the Great Ones that doth partake in cocktails and mutual glad handing on high. They hath granted me sole right to impart my wisdom over this fiefdom.” All were quiet save Sir Ball crying quietly over his cap and Brave Sir Flower boot kissing.

Up spake Lord Murphy again. “Lo, I tell thee, that varlet Sir Adams was a false prophet and unfaithful knight who stole all the light and now has truck with Saracens. He was not our true champion for we need not flash on the field but faith In my wisdom. I tell you, Brave Sir Lazard and and Cobb will light the true way.” And thus he ordained that the feasting shouldst continue and let any who doubt it be cast into the wilderness beyond our borders.

And thus it came to pass that St. Rodgers, proud in his might, didst take the field full of confidence. So undaunted was he that he tricked not with the youngsters for it’s known that they are mere pretenders, but chose the counsel of the few old and infirm retainers of yore.

With these these stalwart favorites he marched, a little slowly, into battle armed with and steeled by faith born of rare herbs and the valiant words of Lord Murphy. Onwards he went unchanging and unyielding towards the Sancte Graal and the MVP so assuredly promised in the great giftings from his Lord.
He was soundly trounced, trussed and hogtied by urchins to lowly to Mention hitherto who paid no attention to the wisdom of Murphy.

And the moral of this tale? Believeth not in a guy who rides on Hubris and tellest thee that thou shouldst put thy faith in a firkin of obvious crap.

Extracted from the Chronicles of Lambeau. Sadly the remainder of which are scorched beyond legibility.

Thine allegory, Sir Coldworld, if that it be, doth intrigue me, and leadeth me unto reflection:
***
It is the fantasy football of mere numbers that is superficial and dry and momentary; it is rather the football on the field of contest, of flesh and blood, that exciteth the heart of man and woman, and is fantasy true.
For the tales of fantasy that endureth in cherished memory are the motives and deeds of mere mortals writ large and fancifully, and so each of us may perchance participate in some small way in the adventure, if only we will.
We know that victory cometh not always to the strongest, but to those who humbleth themselves before the God of love, who died in shame but rose into glory.
All in the history of human drama which is of worth follows from this true account of the king who came as a commoner, a savior who was our servant, a lord most mighty who calls us friends -- with his perseverance in the right that conquers amidst the worst of defeats.
***
It was the inspiration of an obscure captain named Lombardi, who came from afar to the remote hamlet of Green Bay and its football team most feeble and forlorn. He instilled in his dispirited knights a quest for excellence inextricably bound with the pursuit of virtue and the sacrifice of camaraderie.
The result astounding is a legend of triumph most real, unsurpassed before or since in the annals of the NFL; but its romance resounds because of the character of its players, imperfect though they were, yet with a sincerity of individual endeavor and fond fellowship for shared glory.
The captain Lombardi, stout and strong and demanding and gruff, said surprisingly of the success so superb and eminently grand -- gained through the crucible of toil, affliction, dejection, and even doubt -- the secret is love.

The torch is passing, be content with beer, brats and bleachers ...oh and a sledding hill...as wise men have said, “Things Fall Apart” ..Chinua Achebe...so things are falling apart..nothing lasts forever..as Heraclitus has stated “The only thing Constant is change”...so as Thomas Fuller has clearly stated.."All things are difficult before they are easy”...perhaps its time for Packer fans to adjust their sails, metaphorically speaking of course....“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.” William Arthur Ward..other fan bases in the Norris Div now may have a chance to enjoy being on top, its only right..have one of those dreadful Spotted Cows for me come Sunday!!

They should trade for a WR to salvage the season. Every thing is going the wrong direction this year. Cooks from Houston would be a good fit.

Listen, Lafleur, Rodgers and Barry are not using the players to use their abilities.

Lafleur noted that Doubs ran the pattern as designed but the wrong direction as Rodgers rolled out is a great example of messing up a young receiver. And when will they use Jones and Dillon more? Unbelievable.

Barry has cornerbacks that are best in man coverage but he uses zone primarily. And something is wrong if there are communication issues. That is coaching issues.

And finally, when will Rodgers throw to the open receiver rather than just to his trusted WR.

Lots of things to fix.

Nothing can be salvaged out of this shipwreck. One WR is not going to turn this team around with Rodgers throwing passes that are directionally impaired. It starts with winning the battle in the trenches which are lost every week against lesser opponents. The real tests are yet to come and it would have to be a very quick turn around.I don't see that happening, new WR or not. Time to scuttle the ship, mates.

I couldn't disagree more. We have consistently and constantly let ARod down over the years with the draft and develop strategy. It's been proven to make great playoff teams, but that's it. It's a conservative approach, bouyed by an incredible talent at QB, that led to false positives for success. We literally threw away ARod's prime on the stubbornness of Ted Thompson sticking to his formula; not accepting the reality that the CBA had permanently and thoroughly ruined D&D as a primary method of team building with the near exclusion of free agent signings. And now Gutey and his cre, are continuing the tradition of over-appreciating their skill at drafting in the face of the reality that we don't have the right players on the team. And a large handful of draft picks haven't panned out. Which should be lesson enough, but because we don't have an owner, there's no accountability regarding D&D's evaluation. Hoping they get it right next year, and overvaluing draft capital has put us in a hole for a decade, providing a Superbowl is the criteria it's balanced against. And honestly, they put 150 million is ARod's pocket. If they're all-in, then be all-in. You can't commit to an all-in strategy but try to keep your draft picks. It's the definition of insanity. Either we take risks or we're risk averse. We can't have it both ways, one foot in, one foot out. And using ARod's inhuman greatness to propel us to the playoffs, perennially, as justification for the D&D strategy is dishonest at best. It's time to wholeheartedly mortgage the future and commit. Trade Love, trade every pick we need to get 2 quality WRs. Then pay OBJ whatever he wants on top of that. Give AR a full stable of weapons to work with like in 2011. We still have all the other parts. And then the coaching and accountability can come into focus. Not having the right players is a bigger problem come playoff time than great coaching is. I'm tired of seeing the best-coached, least penalized, penny-pincher squad go out pre-superbowl. And I'm equally tired listening to blame end up on ARod's shoulders. It's time for Packers management to stop defining success as making the playoffs. Which is clearly the subtext to a decade of failure with arguably the most talented QB in history. There's a hubris that stems from the TT line that needs to be reckoned with and weeded out.

If this comment had been made four years ago, I would have heartily agreed with it. Wolf and Holmgren believed they short changed Favre by not getting him enough weapons on offense and Thompson and Gutekunst did the same to Rodgers. Unfortunately I believe the window has closed. Rodgers is 38, soon to be 39, and is showing his age. He has lost mobility and no longer throws well under pressure or off platform (watch Mahomes or Allen to see the difference).

We all see Brady playing well into his mid 40's and think Rodgers should have at least five more years of good play left. Brady is an outlier of epic proportion and not a responsible measuring stick. Only three other modern era QBs have played successfully into their 40's (both Mannings and Brees) and all three were in decline by the time they got to their 40's. Almost all the other great QBs (Marino, Montana, Young, Aikman, Simms, etc. etc.) retired by their late 30's. Rodgers' decline should surprise no one - he is following the same path as every other QB not named Brady.

Going all in on Rodgers four years ago would have made total sense. Going all in on Rodgers now was and is a fool's wager.

It's too late. That ship has sailed. No WR is going to turn around this team. There are too many other issues to correct that will keep this team from a SB. No reason to mortgage more of the future. It's been done. We ride with horse that brung us. Hope we may have until reality sets in. I'm hopeful that when Watson heals he will at least take the top off the defense, unless they keep using him on jet sweeps that were already being sniffed out. Let him do what you drafted him for and throw him the dang ball. At a minimum the fear of a completion to him will back off the opposing defenses. Drops? Likely. Interceptions? Maybe. The difference? None. What's to lose? Nothing. You're going to audible out of a run, because you don't trust the RB's to gain ONE yard, and at the same time don't trust the receivers either??? WTF are we doing out there?

This team was not built for 4 years down the road. It was for this year only to finally get to the SB. The Piper will have to be paid next year and there will be a lot of new faces.

Oh yes the much beloved draft capital. We need a functional #1 AND #2 WR AND better TE. Any of those 3 would help but a #1 WR would help the most. Packers have been drafting in the second round or later for WR and it takes YEARS for ANY of them to produce at a #1 level.....So either we compete this year and next or we wait until Doubs and Watson, etc get it together in the next 2-4 years. That's reality. Maybe we lose most of games and we get a high enough draft pick and get a rookie #1 like Jefferson and a FEW others. I have not seen
AR elevate anyone yet at those positions we already have....So it's current lack of talent and experience as well as a very negative force behind center. As soon as Watson dropped that pass...he should have went right back to him and built some confidence. If they do nothing else A.Jones needs feed the ball in run/pass game as often as Adams was.

Can't say I disagree. There is no way at this point for GB to make their roster more than incrementally better, and frankly, incrementally isn't gonna cut it. At this point I feel like they should be trying something wild like lining Jones up as a traditional WR w Amari in the backfield, running Wildcats with Doubs/Watson, or maybe even throwing Love in on some zone read packages. I don't think "scheme" is the answer, but GB needs a spark somewhere and they're not getting it from what they're doing. Now is prime time to throw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.

Da Bears STILL suck!

Ah yes continue to draft and develop...so we can waste the 3 years and 150mil ARod signed on for? Either be all in or not! At some point you have to make a splash in trades or free agency. The Bills passing game is stellar for a few reasons but it wouldn't be what it is if they hadn't made the huge trade for Diggs a few years ago.
A veteran like BCooks or AJ Green might not be the solution but Elijah Moore, DJ Moore and Jerry Jeudy would immediately elevate this offense and also be good for many years. They're great talented WRs who are getting squandered on bad teams and bad QBs, give them a chance to catch from ARod.

We know what we have from Winfree who's what a 3rd year veteran? There's a reason he hasn't made the active roster. Amari has as many fumbles as catches, yes he hasn't had many snaps but we've seen enough.
Toure deserves some time but he's a 7th round rookie, if he's any good it'll be a few years and ARod will be gone.

To everyone who says don't load up now, we're rebuilding. NO. Aaron costs still 40mil if he's not back next year and our defense if allowed to play could win now. We need a healthy line that can block and two solid healthy WRs. I was willing to see how this group did but with how many injuries we have to the WR group this season is lost if we don't get help. And why call it a lost season when you just paid your QB 150mil? Pretty big waste of money.

Go get help. Win now. We rebuild when's ARods gone. Which even if he stays all 3 seasons we'll still potentially have a few solid pieces to build around

Let's be honest Joe Berry and Matt Lafluer should not be coordinators . It's hard for me to blame Lafluer because I'm not sure if he or Rodgers is making the calls.

It is time to see what we have : Dave Bak is player I admire and it is not his fault he got hurt, but we all know this is his last yr so why not Start Yosh at LT see if he is going to be your future and Zack Tom at Right Tackle see if he is your right tackle or Rasheed Walker we need to find out . We know Meyers and Runyan are fine and I bet Jenkins keeps getting back into form as he is farther and farther away from his Acl injury. I actually like the o line and it's potential. Bak can ask for his release, but he will need to renegotiate his contract for that it goes both ways. Let's be hones the window shut,.

Please find a competent defensive coordinator that uses this talent correctly for 4 quarters . Same goes for Devonte Wyatt cut reed and Lowrey snaps not because they suck but because they won't be back.

There is only one guy out of 5 in the secondary that has anticipation of the play and that is Douglas. That is a big part of the problem there. Tackling and Anticipation to be in the right spot at the right time to make the play and actually having the skills to catch the ball. Jugs machine for WR's and DB's...If they miss it.... they run...That's the only way to rectify it...They will all of the sudden be laser focused.

Use Dillon in a trade if Hill is back , Dillon does not fit in this offense and can’t buy a yard anyway.

I have noticed Dillon slow to hit the hole or make a bad decision...Could be him.... or the OL not clearing out what they're suppose to. He has not been taking the right one though and has limited his yards. Indecision is bad as well as vision issues.

That's because they run the zone run. Dillan is best and the O-line for that matter when a run is called to a certain spot and then they're sure who to block and Dillan hits it full speed. No dancing around. He's not being used correctly. When he started his first game against Tenn it was winter and because of footing MLF called the game correctly to give the O-line an edge. That works in good weather too, MLF just tries to be cute.

Theres nothing wrong with zone runs.....when theyre run with the qb under center. I feel like Dillon has had most of his best runs in his career on zone runs. The problem is they only hand him the ball out of shotgun now which is a criminal mismanagement of the uniqie talent he possesses.

When the Packers lost Adams and MVS, that was a huge part of their offense. Those two guys made everything click on offense; Adams being great and MVS being the speed to stretch the defense. They were the #1 and #2 WRs. They setup the run to be more effective. Lazard is and always will be a #3 receiver and he is the best we got. I would be in favor of giving up a draft pick to get some help at WR. There is still time to salvage the season seeing as how there are some good players on this team. There is no guarantee a draft pick pans out, and if you can get a proven player, they need to pursue it.

I would have traded for Robbie Anderson. He's dirt cheap. That ship sailed.

Brandin Cooks is available, apparently. Not sure about his price in draft picks, but the 2022 money is fine. Now the $18M he is guaranteed in 2023 is a problem. Cooks has a track record of playing well for his new teams, though I think he got a training camp to acclimate in the past. I don't expect the Packers to acquire Cooks, and probably don't want them to based on what I think he'd cost in pick and 2023 cap space.

I'd prefer to find a quality OL.

Going into the season the receiving corps was sketchy at best. At this moment in time is it better to be a buyer or a seller? Please keep in mind that after this season the wr corp will consist of Rodgers, Doubs, Watson, and Toure. Lazard, Watkins, and Cobb as well as Tonyan and Lewis are all UFA. As it stands, the pack will be approx 2.3 mil over the cap.
Add Amos and Crosby to the UFA list. Does anyone think the team on the field next season would be better than this year as it currently stands? Factor in the speculation that Aaron Jones will be cut without compensation to get under the cap. All this while paying a 40 year old qb 50 mil? Future looks bleak.
I believe they can be both a buyer and seller at the same time while still fielding a competitive team. The pack is currently 11 mil under the cap so pieces could be added.
Offer a 5th round pick to Denver for KJ Hamler - under rookie deal through 2024
Offer Amari Rodgers to Jacksonville for a conditional pick as he was a college team mate of Trevor Lawrence.
Offer Eric Stokes to Pittsburg along with a 6th round pick for Chase Claypool. Both under rookie deals and Pitt needs secondary help.
These moves would slightly improve next seasons cap by 200k and provide young veterans with upside to add to the wr room.
