Thompson Comes To Play

Once again, Cheesehead TV calls a guy out and he responds by raising his level of play.

Back on Ocotber 2nd, I wrote:

...it’s about time for Jeremy Thompson to show what he can do. Admit it, you forgot all about Thompson, who has yet to be active for a game. With the team in dire need of some quality snaps at the defensive end position, it would be a revelation if the Packers found even modest production from this fourth round pick who by all accounts has the tools necessary but has yet to ‘put it all together’. This would be a good week for him to start doing just that.

OK, so Thompson didn't exactly 'start doing just that' against Atlanta. But he most certianly did more than that against the Seahawks. KGB got the start, but it was Thompson who made many more plays in the run game (although it's not hard to make more plays than 'zero') Sure, he made more than his share of mistakes, including getting washed inside on more than one occasion on an outside run, but more often than not, Thomposon held his own and even pressed the pocket on one or two occasions. According to defensive line coach Carl Hairston:

He stuffed Walter Jones and I think Walter was shocked, too...He did a great job with his leverage, used his body and his arms. If he continues to do that, he’ll really pan out for us.

If Thompson can give the Packers anything resembling competent play at defensive end, it will be a minor miracle for a defensive line that has been at its best when it is able to shuffle its parts around.
