Ty Montgomery traded to the Baltimore Ravens

The Packers are trading away the veteran running back.

After a somewhat tumultuous 48 hours, Ty Montgomery appears to be on the move:

The team made a statement by jettisoning Ty. We have a lot of receivers now and he wasn't a true running back as Jones and Williams are the better options. This will give Jones more carries, which is a good thing.

Montgomery has some talent and the Ravens got a good deal for a 7th rd pick. I was hoping we could have gotten a little more, but that's how things can pan out in the NFL

It was the right and appropriate thing to do. Ty's response last night was a response not accepting responsibility and was actually trying to play the victim. Good job Gute. We have your back. Common sense move. Moving him was imperative.

Getting rid of him was pretty much the only option they had and thankfully they were able to get something for him. Great job by Gute. Gl Monty in Baltimore, hope you learned something about being in the public's eye and accounting for your behavior at all times.

Sometimes, the journey of 1000 steps doesn't end well.

So who screwed up and made the fake punt successful? Are we trading them, too?

Given that Jones is the starter and Williams a capable backup, if we don't get injuries at the RB position, we don't really need Monty. I wonder who our #3 RB is now?

Pack needs another RB and Devante Mays is available.
He was showing a lot before he got hurt and a couple of fumbles should not ruin his career.
He knows the system and is in playing shape on the Browns PS.
5'10" 230 lbs with similar speed to AJ. Given a 2nd chance he may have matured.
He has amazing measurables, now if he can only perform?

Pauly,
I was concerned about losing our 3rd RB because it puts us one injury away from being really thin at the position.

However, i'd completely be on board if the Packers could wrestle Devante Mays from the brown's PS.

My fear would be they will jack up his salary to keep him in Cleveland, as they already did for Brian Price earlier this season... I'm a fan of Mays.

Our no. 3 running back could have been Taysom Hill had we kept him. He also could have been our backup qb, tight end, receiver, kickoff returner, gunner, safety and possibly inside linebacker. Talk about depth. Damn it, he's on New Orleans!!

A 7th round pick for Montgomery and a 4th round pick for Dix... BG's fire sale. Personally, I think BG is scapegoating.

The real problem with this team is its coaching. Micah Hyde, Casey Hayward, and Damarious Randall have all flourished after they left the Packers. I expect Dix and Montgomery to do the same.

The play of the Packers will not improve until we get a better HC.

Both out of contract at season’s end. Pretty silly to assume we would get a pick equal to their draft round at that point.

Seem to be folk who were begging the Packers to trade HHCD now griping about them doing so. Hard audience to please here.

Right on. We saw Monty's strength as a matchup receiver out of the backfield. His pass blocking was decent enough, and he has potential as a 3rd down specialist , MM could not find a way to use Monty properly, instead rotating him in on off tackle runs on 1st and 2nd down.

I suspect the Pack weren't looking to resign him next year even before the Rams game unless it was really cheap. So they lose his services for remainder of this season. If Jones and Williams stay healthy they should be alright.

As far as Monty himself, I thought taking the ball out of endzone was a stupid thing to do as it was happening and certainly fumbling it away didn't help. Didn't help my mood towards the team at the time.

But as far as I could tell he is a decent person who didn't deserve some of the vitriol spewed his way.

I say good luck Monty and have a long successful career.

Sorry, but I am not buying the "violent threats". That's called trying to change the subject of what he actually did vs. something that actually never happened to take the heat off him and throw it some place else and suddenly he's the victim. Many bought it here but I don't. Packers fans in WI and world wide are good decent people. We might get pissed at a loss and why it happened but nobody who's a true fan would go further than that with actual death threats on his family. Give me a break. I'm calling b.s. on what Ty said and it appears so did Gute. Is it that effin hard to say I f'd up and I am sorry? He couldn't do it.... He couldn't do it.

They were going to probably cut him this weekend so getting anything back is a plus. On this version of the Packers he wasn't going to be a WR and no more than a #2 or #3 RB and special teams guy. Easily replaced. I think he probably wanted a change of scenery too since he was down to playing 10 snaps a game.

He had a bad day, and I am sure all of has have had some bad days either at work or in our personal life. Pay the price and move on. He willingly changed position from WR to RB when the team needed him to so he shouldn't be remembered as just some completely selfish guy. Good luck to him.

Well, if Damerious Randall is currently posting top-10 position type numbers and is coming off a 12-total-tackle performance in Week 7 so despite being a bit of a headcase in Green Bay that lead to him getting jettisoned the kid clearly has valuable talent. Personally, I don't see him as a draft miss, but an unfortunate outcome.

Despite Ty Montgomery's disappointing decisions this past weekend which has justifiably led to his jettison from the Packers the dude was a pretty solid flex back. It was also a bit disappointing that the Packers weren't able to make better use of him within their offense. Again, I personally see him as being more of an unfortunate outcome than a draft miss.

Had Jake Ryan not suffered a season ending injury leading up to the beginning of this season I think he'd be proving himself as a very solid rotational ILB who's best attribute would be in run prevention. The injury has been unfortunate, but I don't necessarily agree that he was a draft miss.

Can't say much about Brett Hundley in Seattle, but he did mostly disappoint in his starting opportunities here while filling in for an injured A.Rodgers. Some of the blame might be rightly pointed toward the team's game planning and scheming around the player's capabilities. Despite having been in the league several years he effectively was a type of rookie when thrust into a starting role.

Aaron Ripkowski was a late round draft pick and he may be more of a causality of the change within the NFL which has dramatically lessened the value of a Full Back.

Quinten Rollins was indeed a disappointment. And I'm sure his injury didn't help matters.

C.Ringo and K.Backman were late round picks where it's a much bigger gamble as to the type of quality player you can discover. Still, nonetheless, disappointing that they didn't provide too much.

Take off your homer glasses and it looks like a pretty crappy draft. Ty Montgomery couldn’t play WR, RB or KR. Jake Ryan is a poor man’s AJ Hawk. And who the hell needs a FB that fumbles? Rip’s blocking wasn’t that great either, so he was basically worthless. Bert Huntley was the worst QB I’ve ever seen — and I’ve seen a lot of Bear QBs. Randall was miscast I suppose, but a True Draft Genius would draft with an eye to how coaches would use a guy.

It’s drafts like these that have made the Packers a 3-3-1 team.

Trading away our best safety who would only get involved in a play of it suited him. He would watch plays go by him, attempt to tackle by running into a player instead of wrapping up. He did not want to be in GB. We cannot afford a Safety who doesn't want to play every down. Bye Bye HHCD! Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You don't think Mike Pettine had any influence on this decision? I bet at least he told MM they could fill in for HHCD with what they had in his place.

this is about making a statement to the roster and being held accountable. Capers never once benched HHCD for all his terrible play, but Gutey is showing that will not stand in GB anymore.

Fill it with who? Apparently Jones isn’t even worth a starting role and Whitehead is well Whitehead we know Brice sucks so who is he going to fill that spot with that will at least MAINTAIN the safety play? If he had done this and gotten a pass rusher that could help take pressure off the back end then it’s a pretty good move but you trade away your best safety for a 4th? This move seems like a “season over” move more than something that will benefit the team now. Are we playing to win now or are we conceding another year of Rodgers career?

While I share your doubts about the wisdom of shipping out HHCD, the fact is it is pretty clear that they were not going to keep him and that Gutekunst believes that this team needs retooling. TT would not have done this. I see this as a note agressive pursuit of improvement.

Unfortunately, I could be wrong, but since I have no idea of their plan post HHCD, it may be a signal that the belief is that rebuilding is a two year process at least.

On the other hand you and I have been among the few who had spoken out against the cries in favor of trading him. Let’s see who the many advocates of trading him believe can make this move a positive one this season.

Fingers crossed.

I think we need the best, experienced FA Safety that can be found in the off season. Most rookies outside of first round take time to learn NFL
Use the top draft picks on young pass rushers.
Safeties hold up a lot better as they age than pass rushers do. And look at the prices of FA safeties, lot lower than FA OLB. With a top safety you can offset somewhat lack of pass rush with more blitzes.

Good clean break for both the team and Monty. It would have been very tough to have him back in the locker room. Hopefully, he gets a fresh start and continue his career. The team has Carson on the PS for a third running back option, or maybe bring in Vitale or Kerridge as a FB. I'm guessing this means Davis will be re-activated from IR for KR duties.

McCarthy's presser after the game didn't sound like he was to mad, in fact he took the high ground which led me to believe he was going to go easy on Montgomery but the deputy dog must have said no, this crossed a line that even the coach couldn't excuse away, no matter how much you may be one of his guys.
