Bargain Bin Finds Paying Off for Titans

While other teams shelled out big bucks for free agent defenders in the off-season, in Will Witherspoon and Jason Babin, the Tennessee Titans have found a pair of key contributors in the bargain bin, writes John Glennon of The Tennessean.

Through two games, Witherspoon has 12 tackles, while Babin has 10. Both are tied for the team lead with two quarterback sacks, and each has a forced fumble.

After three seasons with the Houston Texans, who chose him in the first-round out of Western Michigan in 2004, Babin was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where he played sparingly in 2007. Waived early in the '08 season, Babin spent several months on the street before finishing the season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Like Witherspoon, Babin played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.

"This is the kind of system I was in in college, and it was the reason I got drafted in the first round," said Babin. "Then I got stuck playing linebacker and stuck in a situation where I didn't play.

"I've always had this in me. I've been so salty and (angry) because I just wanted to show it for the past six years. So it's hard to express how excited I am at finally being able to do it."
