Cleveland Browns wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, acquired last fall in a trade that sent Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets, is expected to battle 2009 second-round pick Brian Robiskie for the team's #3 receiver role, with first-year receiver Jake Allen and sixth-round pick Carlton Mitchell pressing for reps as the fourth and fifth receivers.

Stuckey's 62 receptions for 677 yards and 5 touchdowns give him the highest career totals among the franchise's receivers corps, which is why Browns' general manager Tom Heckert hasn't ruled out adding an experienced veteran to the group.

Heckert has, however, ruled out signing Terrell Owens.

"That's not the direction we're headed," Heckert said, according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "There's a lot of factors that go into that. I think at this stage of his (Owens') career, this isn't a place he'd be looking at. We don't plan on talking to him."

In his one season with the Buffalo Bills, who used three starting quarterbacks in 2009, a 36-year old Owens caught 55 balls for 829 yards and 5 touchdowns, including one on a 98-yard catch-and-run, the longest pass play in the NFL last season.

Owens is reportedly seeking a contract that pays him $5 million dollars per year, which would make him one of the ten highest-paid wide receivers in the league. Paying that much money for a soon-to-be 37-year old wide receiver likely explains why Heckert isn't planning on talking to Owens, who showed last season that he's not chasing simply chasing rings, and is willing to play for a rebuilding franchise in a cold climate.

Since this is the same front office that gave Jake Delhomme $7.5 million dollars this off-season, the S.S. Fiscal Responsibility is already at the bottom of Lake Erie. If Owens is the best veteran receiver available, and can help the Browns win football games this season, why wouldn't the Browns at least talk to him?
