Buccaneers Release TE Jerramy Stevens

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released tight end Jerramy Stevens.

Stevens was arrested on Saturday night in Hillsborough County and is facing two felony drug charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

A first-round pick (28th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks out of the University of Washington in 2002, Stevens has 202 receptions for 2,217 yards and 22 touchdowns during his nine-year career in the NFL, the last four spent with the Buccaneers.

Stevens appeared in five games for the Buccaneers this season, catching three passes for 43 yards. He was inactive for yesterday's 18-17 win over the St. Louis Rams. Stevens has been earning a $1.425 million base salary in the final season of his two-year contract.

Stevens has already been suspended for two violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy, both stemming from a DUI and possession of marijuana arrest in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2007. Depending on how his latest legal issue shakes out, Stevens is facing a lengthy, multi-game suspension from the NFL.
