Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Tanard Jackson has been suspended indefinitely by the National Football League for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com reports.

As a repeat offender of this policy--Jackson was suspended to start the 2009 season--Jackson may not apply for reinstatement until September 22, 2011. Jackson's suspension is without pay, which will cost the fourth-year safety $485,294 in base salary this season.

A fourth-round pick out of Syracuse in 2007, Jackson (6-0, 200) has started all 46 of his games in the NFL, totaling 204 tackles and a quarterback sack, with 8 interceptions and 24 total passes defensed.
