Chiefs Waive Six Players

The Kansas City Chiefs have waived six players, most notably running back Kolby Smith and quarterback Matt Gutierrez.

Undrafted rookies Leroy Banks (TE), Andre Jones (S), Nick Landry (OT), and first-year guard Jerail Porter rounds out the list of six players who were waived on Monday.

A fifth-round pick (148th overall) out of Louisville by the Chiefs in 2007, Smith ran for 540 yards on 162 carries with three touchdowns in his 27 games over the last three seasons. Smith added 34 receptions for 209 yards as a receiver out of the backfield, and seven tackles on special teams.

After finishing second on the team in rushing as a rookie, knee and ankle injuries have limited Smith to just 11 games over the last two seasons.

Gutierrez was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots last September. In one appearance, Gutierrez completed one pass for 3 yards.

Today's roster moves puts the Chiefs at 81 players on their off-season roster: 73 signed players, one unsigned restricted free agent (Jarrad Page), and seven unsigned 2010 NFL Draft picks.
