Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress is losing credibility and respect from the players inside the locker room.

According to Cole, one of those players is the man Childress chauffeured to Vikings headquarters last August.

"In short, even as Minnesota’s best hope to win a Super Bowl this season was rejoining the team, Childress was losing more ground with his team in the battle for respect. One of the biggest issues playing out behind the scenes in Minnesota is that many players, particularly on offense, have no respect for Childress. Among those players is (Brett) Favre, who officially returned to the team Wednesday. According to multiple team sources, Favre’s disdain for Childress is deep.

'Brett thinks Childress has no clue about offense,' a Vikings player said."

Just as the Vikings had to wait until mid-August to add Favre, they'll now get to spend the rest of the month denying the existence of a schism within the locker room.

This schism may prove more difficult to sweep under the rug than last year's, which was bridged by a 6-0 start to the regular season. The 2010 Vikings play six 2009 playoff teams in the first half of the season, including road games against New Orleans, the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Green Bay Packers.

A 3-5 or 4-4 start to the season could turn a schism into a full-blown mutiny.
