Dallas Cowboys fourth-round cornerback Akwasi Owusu-Ansah has agreed to terms on a four-year contract, his agent, Nate Haber, announced on Twitter.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A two-year starter at cornerback for IUPUI, Owusu-Ansah (6-0, 207) is expected to make the move to safety, where his ball-hawking skills are expected to improve the back-end of the Cowboys’ secondary.
Owusu-Ansah earned second-team All-PSAC honors in 2008 after leading the conference in interceptions (8), and was first-team all-conference as opposing teams avoided his side of the field in 2009.
A dangerous returner, Owusu-Ansah averaged 25.9 yards on 53 career kick returns, bringing three back for touchdowns. Owusu-Ansah also averaged 11.3 yards on 70 punt returns with four touchdowns. Owusu-Ansah established the IUPUI record for kick return yardage (1,282), and punt return yardage (788).
Overall, Owusu-Ansah scored nine touchdowns during his college career.
Owusu-Ansah ran a 4.32-second time in the 40-yard dash at the 2010 Scouting Combine, where he also demonstrated a 35” vertical leap and 10’00” broad jump. Owusu-Ansah is coming off a shoulder injury that kept him out of the Cowboys’ off-season workouts. Coming from a Division II school, it would not be surprising if his sole contributions as a rookie come as a return specialist.
Owusu-Ansah has answered previous doubts, though, so anything is possible.
