Cowboys WR Sam Hurd Handling Dez Bryant Arrival Differently Than Crayton

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Sam Hurd is handling the arrival of first-round wide receiver Dez Bryant a bit differently than Patrick Crayton is, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

"Every day is a blessing," Hurd said. "They say the average career is three years, so I've already gone long than that.

"Why should I be mad that we drafted (Bryant)? I'm happy for him, and I'm happy that we have another great player on our team. I'm going to keep doing things the way I've always done them. I'm not going to change."

One possible reason Hurd has handled the situation differently is that unlike Crayton, who has started 23 games over the last four seasons and is the team's primary punt returner, Hurd has primarily been used on special teams throughout his career.

In 50 career games, Hurd has started just 5 times, and only once since the 2007 season. Hurd has 31 receptions for 510 yards and two touchdowns, including 7 receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown in 16 games last season. Hurd also has 43 special teams tackles during his four years with the Cowboys, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois in 2006.

A restricted free agent tendered at the "Second Round" level, Hurd is slated to earn $1.759 million dollars in 2010.
