Former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter closed out the 2010 NFL Rookie Symposium on Wednesday, and for good reason.

Carter, whose career was nearly ended by off-field distractions, keeps it real with the players, reminding them that to be a success in the National Football League, they need to focus on their jobs, and not what their friends and family want them to do.

"Yeah, you better change. And you better watch your money," Carter said. "Because when you get old like me, you better know that you got some money. And you're the only one out there making it. You're the only one risking your neck. Ain't nobody taking on no double-teams. Ain't nobody doing that. And they're sitting at the crib talking about when the game is.

"You talking about people who can drag you down quick, and not have your mind right and ready to play. Because when you go on that field, man, and you're in that box, you can't be thinking about no stupid stuff like that, man. Have all your affairs in order before you get on that field, man. Don't you know one of them dudes will hurt you? Don't you know people are trying to hurt you?"
