Future Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Brooks has officially announced his retirement from professional football.

A press conference will be held at One Buc Place on Thursday at 1:30pm ET.

Brooks, 37, was a first-round pick (28th overall) out of Florida State by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995. Brooks never missed one of the 224 regular season games during his 14-year career, which included 11 trips to the Pro Bowl (1997-2006, 2008) and six first-team All-Pro selections.

A knack for making the big play, Brooks had 13.5 quarterback sacks and 25 interceptions, returning six for touchdowns. Three of those scores came during the 2002 season, after which Brooks was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year. Brooks capped off that season by returning an interception 44 yards for a touchdown in the Bucs' Super Bowl win over the Oakland Raiders.

Brooks drew interest from the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots last off-season, but was not offered a contract.
