Dolphins Claim TE Mickey Shuler Off Waivers

The Miami Dolphins have claimed tight end Mickey Shuler off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings, reports Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

A seventh-round pick (214th overall) in 2010, Shuler caught a two-yard touchdown pass in his first pre-season game and made the Vikings' 53-man roster to the start the season. Shuler did not dress for either of the Vikings' two losses this season, and was waived by the Vikings on Wednesday to clear a spot on the 53-man roster for wide receiver Hank Baskett.

The 6-4, 251-pound Shuler caught 27 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns during his career at Penn State University, playing the role of a blocking tight end while teammate Andrew Quarless handled the receiving duties.

Shuler's father spent 14 seasons in the NFL, including 12 seasons with the New York Jets, who the Dolphins face on Sunday night. Shuler will compete with fellow rookie Jeron Mastrud for playing time behind starter Anthony Fasano.
