Eagles Sign 4th Round LB Keenan Clayton

Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles have signed fourth-round linebacker Keenan Clayton to a four-year contract.

Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.

Caplan adds that the Eagles placed cornerback Marlin Jackson (Achilles) on injured reserve, and waived rookie free agents quarterback Joey Elliott, running back Keithon Flemming, wide receiver Pat Simonds, and fullback Chris Zardas.

Clayton, who the Eagles chose with the 121st overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, played safety and linebacker at the University of Oklahoma. A two-year starter for the Sooners, Clayton totaled 185 tackles during his career, including 17 for a loss and 6 quarterback sacks. Clayton added three interceptions and pass break-ups during his 54-game career.

Clayton was named honorable mention All-Big 12 after each of the last two seasons.

Undersized at 6-1 and 229 pounds, Clayton has the speed (4.59-40) and athleticism (41.5" vertical leap, 10'04" broad jump) the Eagles prefer from their linebackers. Clayton's immediate impact will be on special teams, but he could see some action at linebacker in nickel situations.

With Clayton signed, the Eagles now have 7 of their 13-member 2010 Draft Class under contract.
