Hand Injury to Prevent McElroy From Throwing at Combine

An injured throwing hand will keep University of Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy from throwing at the 2011 Scouting Combine, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

McElroy suffered the injury, which was initially reported as a broken bone, during the fourth quarter of the 2011 Senior Bowl. McElroy's hand struck the back of Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod's helmet during his follow-through.

A follow-up visit to a hand specialist in Scottsdale, Arizona has the former Crimson Tide quarterback thinking the injury may just be a deep bruise.

McElroy may postpone his pro day until late March to allow for the injury to fully heal before throwing in front of NFL scouts.
