The New York Jets were one of the teams that recently made an exploratory call to quarterback JaMarcus Russell's agent.

With Russell arrested late this afternoon for possession of a controlled substance (codeine), Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets are no longer interested.

As Mehta notes, the likelihood of the Jets actually signing Russell were always quite slim, but by being arrested this afternoon during an undercover sting into the active ingredient in "Purple Drank", Russell coughed up any chance he ever had of playing for Gang Green.
