Manish Mehta of Newark Star-Ledger reports that following surgery to repair the patellar tendon in his left knee, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez still isn't running or jogging.

Mehta adds that Sanchez, who waited until February 17 to have the procedure, is rehabbing his knee and has been running in a pool.

Sanchez was not expected to be ready for the Jets' OTAS, which begin on May 17 and end on June 10, but it is alarming that, nearly two months after the operation, Sanchez isn't able to jog outside of a pool.

One thing Sanchez's recovery from knee surgery hasn't affected is his ability to earn more of his five-year, $50.5M contract he signed last June.

As I noted on Monday, Sanchez's base salary in 2010 increased to $6,442,500. Initially, I had that as a raise over the $3,181,250 he was scheduled to make, but a source familiar with Sanchez's contract details has pointed out that wasn't the case.

According to this source, Sanchez received a $10.0125M guaranteed salary advance in March, which reduced his base salaries from 2010-13 to the league minimum. Through minimal playing-time incentives in 2009, Sanchez triggered a $5,547,500 escalation to his $395,000 base salary in 2010, with another $500,000 in base salary, presumably tied to playoff wins, added, as well.

In 2011, Sanchez's $480,000 base salary has increased to $13.5 million dollars, his 2012 base salary of $565,000 increased to $8.5 million dollars, and his $660,000 base salary in 2013 is now $4 million dollars.

Additional base salary escalators are available for 2011-13, as are playoff bonuses from 2010-13.

While Sanchez is unable to participate in the team's off-season workout program this off-season, he'll have some financial incentives to do so next off-season. Beginning in 2011, Sanchez can earn a $500,000 workout bonus in each of the final three years of his rookie contract.

Also, by playing in over 60% of the snaps in 2009 (62.4%), and the Jets making the post-season in 2009, Sanchez's $500,000 roster bonus in 2012 is now worth $2.75 million dollars.
