Jets Release WRs Clowney, Turner

The New York Jets have released wide receivers David Clowney and Patrick Turner, reports Jenny Vrentas of The Star-Ledger.

Turner spent two weeks on the Jets' practice squad before being activated for the Jets' Week 3 game against the Miami Dolphins, who had chosen Turner in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Turner did not dress for either of the two games he spent on the Jets' active roster, but if he clears waivers, the Jets will likely look to re-sign him to their practice squad.

After spending the first week of the season the street, the Jets re-signed Clowney in Week 2. In three games, Clowney caught one pass for 22 yards.

The Jets needed to clear one spot to add wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the 53-man roster. Holmes' four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy ends this week.

New York also plans to re-sign nose tackle Howard Green this week.
