Jets Speak to Laveranues Coles' Agent

Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger reports the New York Jets have been in contact with the agent for free agent wide receiver Laveranues Coles.

No deal is imminent, and talks are reportedly in the preliminary stages, but Mehta suggests that it's an "interested twist" to the recent report that Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who is already facing a four-game suspension, was escorted off a Newark-to-Pittsburgh flight on Thursday night for failing to comply with flight regulations.

Holmes refused to turn off his i-Pod while his flight was making its descent into Pittsburgh International Airport.

Coles was a third-round pick (78th overall) by the Jets in 2000 NFL Draft, and the former Florida State Seminole caught 459 passes for 5,941 yards and 37 touchdowns in seven seasons, divided between two stints, with New York.

Overall, Coles has caught 674 passes for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns.

Released by the Jets for salary cap reasons following the 2008 season, Coles caught 43 passes for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
