Josh Freeman Taking Control of the Buccaneers

With many NFL rookies getting to practice with their veteran teammates for the first time this week, there will surely be an awful lot of heads spinning before, during, and after practice. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman, the team's first-round pick in 2009, was like that a year ago, but according to Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times, Freeman is now taking charge in Tampa.

"The first day this year (compared to) the first day last year, we’re light years ahead right now," Freeman said after today's practice. "I feel a lot better...It feels like it was yesterday. Time flies.

"I’m working," Freeman added. "The offseason isn’t all the way finished. This is just one more step, one more piece of growing. We haven’t gone against a live defense since last season. But getting out there, the intensity was up. Everybody was playing hard and guys were making plays. That’s all you can ask for."

Holder adds that Freeman will visit with the team's offensive rookies at their hotel tonight to go over the script for Tuesday's practice, the latest in an ever-growing list of ways Freeman has become the leader of a franchise that has gone 12-20 over the last two seasons, including 3-13 a season ago.
