NFL Lays Out Economic Ramifications of Lockout

The National Football League hosted reporters at the league offices in New York (my invite must have been lost in the mail) to discuss the economic ramifications of a March lockout.

According to the NFL, they will lose $120 million in gross revenue if there is no deal by March 3, when the current CBA expires, and $1 billion if there is no deal by September 2011.

Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com adds the potential financial losses to the 569 players who will be most affected by a lockout.

That number is comprised of 495 players scheduled to be free agents, and 74 players who are due $143.5 million in salary advances or option bonuses, many of whom were first-round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Rosenthal has much more from NFL Chief Negotiator Jeff Pash, so bang it here.
