Panthers Claim LB Jason Williams

The Carolina Panthers were awarded linebacker Jason Williams off waivers, reports Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.

Williams was waived by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

A third-round pick (69th overall) out of Western Illinois in 2009, Williams totaled six tackles in 10 games over the last two seasons. Five of Williams' tackles were as a member of the Cowboys' special teams units.

Williams is signed through the 2012 season at league minimum base salaries, with $176,800 of his contract guaranteed.

To make room for Williams on the 53-man roster, linebacker Abdul Hodge has been waived.
