Panthers DT Tank Tyler Signs RFA Tender

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald reports Carolina Panthers restricted free agent Tank Tyler has signed his one-year tender.

Tyler was chosen in the third-round (82nd overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, where started 19 of 37 games before a mid-season trade sent him to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a fifth-round pick (144th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Tyler made 8 tackles in six games for the Panthers, and for his career, the 6-2, 306-pound former North Carolina State standout has 82 tackles in 43 games.

With three accrued seasons, Tyler was not eligible for unrestricted free agency regardless of the status of the collective bargaining agreement. The Panthers tendered Tyler at the "Original Round", and would have received third-round draft choice compensation had he signed an offer sheet with another club. That did not happen, therefore Tyler will earn a base salary of $1.101 million dollars this season.
