Panthers LB Thomas Davis to Undergo Knee Surgery

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will undergo surgery today to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer reports.

Davis originally tore the knee ligament last November, and re-tore it during a non-contact, individual drill during the team's voluntary "Organized Team Activity" session on Tuesday.

The Panthers have been hopeful that Davis, who had made remarkable strides in his recovery from the first operation, can return at some point in the 2010 season. Gantt points to the quickness in which Davis is undergoing surgery as a potential reason to be optimistic that Davis can return, as he had to wait a full month before having the first procedure done last Fall.
