Panthers Promote QB Brian St. Pierre to Active Roster

The Carolina Panthers announced the promotion of veteran quarterback Brian St. Pierre to the active roster from the practice squad.

St. Pierre, 30, was signed to the Panthers' practice squad last week after starting quarterback Matt Moore was placed on injured reserve.

A fifth-round pick (163rd overall) out of Boston College by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2003, St. Pierre has completed 2-of-5 passes for 12 yards with a touchdown and an interception in two appearances in his seven-year career, which has mostly be spent as an "emergency" third quarterback, hence his practice squad eligibility.

Running back Andre Brown has been placed on waivers to make room for St. Pierre, who adds a veteran presence to a quarterback depth chart topped by rookies Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike.

Clausen sustained a concussion on the final offensive play of the Panthers' 31-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Though the Panthers haven't announced it, they are expected to sign guard C.J. Davis off their practice squad, as well. Linebacker Sean Ware, released when St. Pierre was signed last week, is expected to re-join the practice squad.
