Panthers Sign 3rd Round WR Brandon LaFell

The Carolina Panthers have signed third-round wide receiver Brandon LaFell.

The Carolina Panthers have signed third-round wide receiver Brandon LaFell, a league source said.

LaFell's four-year deal is worth $2.6 million dollars, and includes a signing bonus of just over $818,000.

LaFell (6-3, 205) caught 175 passes for 2,517 yards and 17 touchdowns during his career at LSU, leading the Tigers in receiving in each of the last three seasons. LaFell finished his college career in the Top 5 in school history in all major receiving categories.

LaFell earned first-team All-SEC honors after his junior season, and was second-team All-SEC in 2009.

One of two wide receivers the Panthers selected in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, LaFell is a more polished receiver than Armanti Edwards, giving him an inside track for the #3 receiver role in the Panthers’ offense. With Steve Smith expected to miss most, if not all of training camp with a broken arm, LaFell should see plenty of action during the pre-season.
