Panthers Sign 6th Round QB Tony Pike

The Carolina Panthers announced that they have signed sixth-round (204th overall) quarterback Tony Pike.

Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

Pike started 19 of his 27 games at the University of Cincinnati, completing 61.7% of his 682 pass attempts for 5,018 yards, with 49 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Pike earned second-team All-Big East honors in 2008 and first-team honors in 2009.

The 6-5, 226-pound Pike fractured the forearm in his non-throwing arm in 2008, and last season missed four games after needing surgery to replace a plate in that forearm.

One of two quarterbacks drafted by the Panthers in 2010, because the University of Cincinnati operates on the quarters system, Pike was unable to participate in the team’s “Organized Team Activity” sessions until mid-June. Pike will compete with Hunter Cantwell for the team’s third quarterback job.

Pike is the sixth member of the Panthers' 10-player draft class to sign a contract.
