Panthers Sign S Aaron Francisco

The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran safety Aaron Francisco, Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald reports.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

An undrafted free agent out of BYU, Francisco began his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2005, and established himself as a highly-regarded special teams player. Francisco appeared in 53 games for the Cardinals, including 9 starts.

The 6-2, 207-pound safety totaled 143 tackles,  including 48 on special teams, and a pair of interceptions. Francisco was the Cardinals' special teams captain in 2007 and 2008.

The Cardinals waived Francisco at the end of training camp last season, and he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts. Francisco started two of his 10 games with the Colts, totaling 16 tackles, including 7 on special teams, during the regular season, and a pair of special teams tackles during the Colts' 31-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV.
