The New England Patriots announced the release of linebacker Marques Murrell.

The fourth-year linebacker from Appalachian State, who began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent parts of three seasons with the New York Jets, posted one tackle on Sunday.

Murrell's release clears a roster spot for offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka, who was serving a one-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
