The New England Patriots have re-signed linebacker Marques Murrell, the team announced on Wednesday.

An undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State, Murrell (6-2, 250) entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles before spent much of 2007-09 with the New York Jets.

The 6-2, 250-pound Murrell signed with New England last March, and made the 53-man roster coming out of training camp. Murrell had one special teams tackle in the 2010 regular season opener, but was released the following day.

New England had an open spot on their roster after receiving a seven-day exemption to reinstate rookie linebacker Brandon Spikes to the 53-man roster.
