Ravens OT Jared Gaither Discusses Injury, Weight Loss

Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jared Gaither dropped nearly 30 pounds this off-season, and missed over two days' worth of practices this week for unspecified reasons. According to Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun, Gaither addressed those two issues after this morning's practice.

"I had a couple cramps," Gaither said on Tuesday. "I dropped a couple pounds over the summer just preparing for a great season. I lost a little bit more than I was anticipating and cramped up a little bit my first time out there. I’m back now, and I’m fine."

Gaither said the weight loss, which Lee adds head coach John Harbaugh isn't entirely happy about, was done to alleviate some stress on a foot injury that slowed him last season. Usually listed at 6-9 and 340 pounds, Gaither is expected to put on at least 15 more pounds to get up to 325 pounds, a more suitable weight for an NFL right tackle, where Gaither is expected to play this season.
