Redskins G Mike Williams Expected to Miss 2010

Washington Redskins offensive tackle Mike Williams is expected to miss the 2010 season due to blood clots near his heart, Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports.

The Redskins have declined comment on the situation.

Williams, 30, was the fourth overall pick of the 2002 NFL Draft out of University of Texas by the Buffalo Bills. Williams spent four seasons in Buffalo before being released and signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent the 2006 season on injured reserve (back) before he was waived.

Out of football for 2007 and 2008, a 400-pound Williams signed with the Redskins last April. Williams cut his weight considerably, and when injuries ravaged the line, Williams started 9 games at tackle and guard.

The Redskins rewarded Williams with a two-year contract, and Williams was expected to compete with Artis Hicks for the starting right guard job. If Williams is out for the season, Hicks would have the inside track for the starting job, with Chad Rinehart and possibly Stephon Heyer in the mix, as well.
