Redskins Place P Josh Bidwell on IR

The Washington Redskins have placed punter Josh Bidwell on injured reserve, Chris Russell of ESPN-980AM in Washington, D.C. reports.

Bidwell injured his right hip prior to the Redskins' Week 3 loss to the St. Louis Rams, but returned to average 33.2 yards on five punts on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

To replace Bidwell, the Redskins have signed veteran Hunter Smith.

A seventh-round pick (210th overall) in 1999 out of Notre Dame by the Indianapolis Colts, Smith has a career net average of 35.6 yards on 634 punts during his 11-year career. Smith averaged 36.8 yards on 57 punts in 13 games for the Redskins last season.
