Redskins S LaRon Landry Headed to IR

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan announced that safety LaRon Landry will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, Rick Maese of the Washington Post reports.

Landry has missed the last four weeks with a left Achilles' tendon injury. With the Redskins mathematically eliminated from the post-season, there's no sense in rushing him back from his injury.

A first-round pick out of LSU in 2007, Landry has started all 56 games during his NFL career, totaling 335 tackles, 4 quarterback sacks, and 4 interceptions. Landry was off to a Pro Bowl-caliber season, and considering how much he's escalated his base salary for next season, could be in line for a contract extension in the off-season.
