Report: Redskins to Start Grossman

Kelli Johnson of CSN Washington reports the Washington Redskins will start Rex Grossman at quarterback against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

"Just learned that Rex Grossman is starting over McNabb Sun in Dallas; I'm told Redskins Lockeroom is divided and guys are extremely upset", Johnson tweeted.

Grossman has familiarity the Shanahan's offensive system, having played for Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan last season with the Houston Texans. Grossman hasn't started a game since the 2008 season, his final year with the Chicago Bears.

In the two appearances he's made in relief of Matt Schaub in 2008, and Donovan McNabb this season, Grossman has completed 7-of-16 pass attempts for 77 yards with an interception. He's also fumbled twice, losing one.

McNabb signed a five-year, $70 million contract extension in November, but the news of Grossman starting makes it more likely that the club will cut ties with McNabb after this season.

McNabb is due a $10 million option bonus after the season, which the Redskins could decline to pick up, which would make McNabb a free agent.
