Seahawks Could Be Interested in Vincent Jackson...Maybe
By admin
Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network surmises that if unsigned San Diego Chargers restricted free agent wide receiver Vincent Jackson becomes available via a trade, the Seattle Seahawks may be interested in acquiring him.
"If the Chargers came to a point where they were trying to trade Vincent Jackson, I would expect the Seahawks to be quite active in trying to acquire him", La Canfora said.
La Canfora notes that the Seahawks were active participants in the Brandon Marshall Sweepstakes, and wide receiver is a position that they (Seattle) "aren't averse to trading for".
It's important to remember that while the Seahawks' interest in Brandon Marshall was very real, there was a line they would not cross to acquire him, both financially in a long-term contract, and in terms of draft choice compensation. The Seahawks are also already without their third-round pick in 2011, which they shipped to the Chargers for quarterback Charlie Whitehurst.
With Seahawks general manager John Schneider aware of the many holes still left to fill on a football team that has gone 9-23 over the last two seasons, and already without that third-round pick in 2011, when you factor in the selection of Golden Tate in the second-round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the expected return to health of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Deon Butler expected to play a major role in his second year, a potential career-resurrection going on with Mike "Veteran Minimum" Williams, and a Jeremy Bates' offense that will feature many more two-tight end sets this season, what's the likelihood of the Seahawks trading multiple early-round picks to acquire a 27-year old wide receiver with multiple DUIs, and then paying him a boatload of money?
Jackson is a heck of a receiver, but is ultimately just another name to add to the "Really Doesn't Make Sense When You Think About It" list of players the Seahawks have been linked to this off-season.
Donovan McNabb
Terrell Owens
Marshawn Lynch
Albert Haynesworth
Rob Riggle
