Seahawks GM John Schneider Pulls a Fast One
By admin
Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider made an impromptu appearance on the Kevin Calabro Show on 710 ESPN Seattle today, and the first question asked was when first-round offensive tackle Russell Okung would be signed.
"It just gone done," Schneider said before quickly setting the record straight by saying that negotiations were still ongoing. "No, I'm just kidding. John Idzik is working on that and...we're not sure. We're making some progress, so we'll see how it goes."
When asked for insight on the progress, Schneider said "No. I can't talk about it. We don't talk about those things."
Seahawks vice president of administration John Idzik handles those negotiations, and hopefully he wasn't listening at the time.
In other Seahawks news, linebacker Anthony Heygood's return to the club is looking like it's going to be a brief one. In yet another example of how Twitter is a game-changer, while his teammates were practicing, Heygood was tweeting about having a serious injury.
"Still in good spirits tweeps. Didn't touch a soul this year and down for the count. Man o man life happens for a reason," Heygood tweeted before adding "Thank you to everyone keeping me in your prayers. Ima be back in no time a much smarter and stronger football player."
Seattle cut the former Purdue linebacker on August 1, but re-signed him on Wednesday. The unavailability of 2009 first-round linebacker Aaron Curry, who has missed practice this week with a concussion, was part of the reason the team brought Heygood back.
Long-snapper Matt Overton was waived to create a roster space for Heygood.
John Boyle of the Everett Herald confirms that Heygood suffered a torn Achilles during this morning's warm-ups, and will be waived/injured soon. Here's wishing the first-year player well in his recovery.
