Seahawks Have Interest in QB Patrick Ramsey

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Friday that the Seattle Seahawks are expected to make an attempt at signing quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who was released by the New Orleans Saints on Friday.

A first-round pick in 2001 by the Washington Redskins, Ramsey has completed 56% of his 913 pass attempts for 5,930 yards, with 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions for a career passer rating of 74.9.

Prior to signing with the Saints this off-season, Ramsey had stints with the New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, and Tennessee Titans.

The Denver connection explains the Seahawks' interest.

Seahawks offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates was the Broncos' quarterbacks coach in 2007 and 2008, the two seasons Ramsey spent in the Mile High city. With J.P. Losman posting an unimpressive 20.5 passer rating this summer, the Seahawks may look to the 31-year old Ramsey to be the #3 quarterback behind Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, and could dangle an opportunity to compete with Whitehurst for a starting job in 2011 to get him to Seattle.
